4 Day Trip To France, Any Recommendations

  1. Many thanks, I am familiar with that area using small roads to Dordogne, very much looking only at Luxembourg for the next one.

  2. Luxembourg and German border area is excellent area to ride (also not that far from the Ring)

  3. Don't bother with France, go to Spain. Overnight very comfortable ferry Portsmouth Bilbao/Santander, then free and empty motorways, no cops, very cheap food, booze, coffee, fuel (now -20% VAT about £1.47 for petrol) and accommodation.
Race tracks, beaches ancient cities like Cordoba & Grenada and finally, they quite like Brits.

  4. Bit far to go for just a few days though!

  5. With a solid days riding in and out, you could get down to the Parc Natural des Ballons des Vosges which has some nice roads in it. Around the town Munster is what I rode. But Luxemborg is easier for 4 days and if you stay in the northern parts around Wiltz and Vianden you will find good riding.

  7. If you do not know the roads to choose in Luxembourg, be aware that Google street view works! Very handy. Had a couple of days in the area in May. Very nice scenery and cracking roads. Regular toe sliders down..

  8. I am a Luxembourg virgin, I was told it’s not a bad ride to Adenau, have a coffee while watching people go around the ring, that will be one day, then have another day to find nice roads

  9. We've gone down to Vianden in the past and I don't think there is a bad road by which you can leave that town.
I can share routes if you wish. Below is one of our loops which can easily make a half day ride if the weathers poor.

  10. I would love to take you up on your offer of sharing the route, can you send it to me in GPX? I have MRA if that helps.

  11. Right, I've made them all public. 2,3 & 4 will take you into towns around mid morning, lunchtime and mid-afternoon for breaks but I don't tend to get more specific than that. The roads outside of towns are mostly national speed limits.

    1. This is a long route that we normally break up with a hotel in the middle. But I've left it in for the road that takes you near Spa. https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/6844558?mode=share

    2. Round trip from Vianden. https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/5788494?mode=share

    3. Alternative round trip from Vianden. https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/5529154?mode=share

    4. Another round trip from Vianden, to try and get the nice road from routes 1 & 5 into a day. I've not tried the connecting part between Malmendy and Wiltz yet. https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/5529153?mode=share.

    5. Quick route back. The first part to Wiltz is nice but if the weathers chilly it get's icy. https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/5788459?mode=share

  12. Expect a Knighthood in the New year honours list.

Thanks so much and very much appreciated

  13. Super helpful and downloaded. I would look to get off eurotunnel around 9-10 am and be in Vianden for a beer before dinner. In that case would you advise me reversing your return route, which is pretty much what I had looked at anyway, I have found getting around Brussels can be a major PIA?

  14. Yes, I would just reverse that route. The motorway will serve it's purpose and the last hour of the ride will be escalating levels of fun.

If you're not a veggie the Auberg does very nice steaks and burgers (beef and horse) even if they struggle a little with service sometimes.

  15. I am certified half French....so not a veggie!
