Yeah, like even the friendliest will tell you…‘it’s unusual for a 1098 to do a main bearing my customer, a real one off’ I don’t have one and am more likely to get honest feedback on here
A travel kettle. Tea bags, milk and sugar. I need a big mug of tea before the day starts. And none of that peppermint/Earl Grey/Lemon shite that you get in hotel rooms either. We need proper Yorkshire tea. From India
I just took my paddock, a bag of nuts n bolts, 55mm, torque bar, foot pump, press guage, insulating tape and my visa. The latter being useful at the bar.
Yup! The Spanish tea is shite! I did have my last bird convinced that Yorkshire tea was actually grown in Yorkshire. On the gentle south facing slopes of the dales, where stout Yorkshire lasses who had failed their O'levels, could be observed (from a safe distance) walking up and down the rows of ripening leaves, carefully nipping off the precious tips...
Your title and OP is throwing me off. Track or Euro trip or both? Honestly Brad, I don't think there's a good general answer to your question. If you can walk away from a crash and not be rattled, I think a spare bike and spare protective gear is the best I can think of.
Both matey. Ie what regularly stops play with a pani. Seems maf sensor, gear sensor are key bits worth grabbing
I'm no track veteran but levers, clip-ons, gear shifters and brake pedals are the things to go first. Spare protective gear/helmet are still up there. Moreover, you have to bring the bike back if not ridaeble.
TAXI!!! The downside of riding your pride and joy to a track day…. All that smugness after passing guys ‘on slicks’ evaporated right there
Tbf this particular one was a guy on slicks when it started raining passing me then crashing right in front of me, and I quickly followed
With all the talk of gear shifters, not sure on the cost of the spare Ducati part, but for the £240 it costs for the translogic, surely it would make more sense to change to that and keep the Ducati as a spare? Man maths and all that. Mine stock QS failed earlier this year so I changed to the translogic unit and it's a very noticeable improvement. Not really related to spares, but thinking more about things that have happened to me with taking my 1299 on track. If you wouldn't normally, drop your ABS setting down to 1 so it's front only. I came in from my first session and the rear had been pumping (no I don't really use the rear on track, I'm not Bagnaia) so had spewed brake fluid all over the exhaust heat shield. Had never been a fan of reservoir socks, felt like just an attempt to get even more logos on your bike, so made a one out of cutting up a microfibre and some cable ties, then dropped the ABS setting down and never had the problem since. The other one to check is your exhaust servo valve. Mine seems to be on the soft side, and was actually starting to close under vibrations from the bike and surface in 4th gear onwards. It was going flat at the top end and wouldn't rev out fully. So if you haven't, get some lockwire round it at least to make sure it won't move, I'm going to get mine off over winter and just get a spot of weld on it so it's definitely solid. A more pricey one, but I had an engine warning light come on at Snetterton. No one in the paddock had a reader so I had to miss the afternoon and take the bike to Ducati Cambridge who plugged it in for me. Turned out to only be an o2 sensor so was fine to continue. They also told me the system has two levels of warnings, light on, and then a flashing light on stop engine limp mode situation, so if it's bad, it will do that. If I was going a Euro multi dayer, I'd definitely consider buying a code reader to at least be able to find out what's wrong there and then as without one you're blind if something comes up. Worth doing the TC wheel speed sensor calibration just so that's talking to itself properly.
I swapped my GSXR750 for the 1299, then got into track riding. I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a part of me that wished I'd kept it as a track bike
Dont shit yourself when you hit the limiter because you were too slow to change up. Thought the bike had blown up. I'm about to buy an HM Racing QS and use the OEM as the spare as it works fine. I set my ABS OFF. Was tricky to get it to switch back on afterwards, took a few goes. Ive since bought track day clothes, light blanks and a Corsacorta brake m/c. Ive also made the mental decision to care less about falling off. I'm itching to book a t/day, but waiting as I want to go with my mates and all the stars need to align. Deffo back at Almeria in June though.
