My bikes are staying in the garage for the winter. It’s bloody cold out there, but I do have a dehumidifier. I’m thinking about getting some covers for the bikes, so would there be any adverse issues? I don’t want to pull the covers off in a few months only to find that they’ve got damp and corroded.
I use a soft lined indoor cover on mine. And there’s 2 big fuck off radiators in my garage too Gotta have somewhere to go when Mrs Cringe is watching the usual shite on the telly… there’s a well stocked fridge full of Heineken too
I just use old quilt covers over mine, they don’t scratch anything, keep the dust off and allow air flow.
I’d just cover them in cotton bed sheets to keep the dust off them, especially as you have a dehumidifier.
My bikes have never suffered from just being left in the garage without covers.Apart from keeping the batteries charged They are left alone until the spring weather arrives. My BMW I had for 44 years had no signs of rust when I sold it this year and none of my Ducati’s deteriorated.
I have covers but don't use them. I do cover the tank on my Z650 with a couple of towels though. That one sits under some cupboards in the garage and being a clumsy bast, twice I dropped stuff on the bike that was sat there and so twice needed to repaint the tank My garage is integral to the house mind, and so does not really get damp or too cold. I put a new door on a couple of seasons back too which helps.
I cannot see any point to cover whilst stored in a garage, unless you want to protect from UV. (large window nearby) Dehumidifier is a good idea, cold garage doesn't really matter....
My garage is very cold during the winter and after a good coating of ACF50 I use an Oxford Protec Stretch Indoor Cover and I hang two large moisture gathering bags on the bike and it's kept my GS corrosion free for 4 years. I'm now doing the same with the Mulitistrada.
I agree as long as you’ve good ventilation you shouldn’t have a damp garage, I still put old cotton sheets on my bikes to keep the dust off the paintwork.
I use a loose blanket and a small thermostatic fan heater set low It creates enough movement of warm air to keep any moisture at bay.
