AFAIK there’s no VAT due on the hammer price of the bike (unless it’s an import where duty & vat have yet to be paid) only on the ‘Service’ element of the transaction which is the auctioneer’s fees.
That was my understanding from other auctions as well, however the Mathewsons website says:- 4. VAT 1. It should be noted that all lots sold on behalf of non-registered vendors together with registered vendors trading under the General Margin Scheme will be sold under VAT Auctioneers Margin Scheme unless written instructions are received to the contrary. 2. Value Added Tax at the standard rate will be charged on all lots unless otherwise announced at the time of sale. Looks like the unsold items from the Dec sale will be re-auctioned on 07DEC22, but looking at the details of the 1098R in question in the auction items I can't see anything relating to VAT status. I'm not familiar with the VAT General Margin Scheme either, but dont think I need to be at this time. Obviously anyone planning to bid would check all this with Mathewsons before bidding.
I know for definite, Hammer price does NOT incur VAT VAT is only applied to the commission fees I bought a bike from them in their April auction, and, I bought another bike from them yesterday Hammer price + (commission + VAT)
Didn't watch most of Saturdays auction, but, I did see on their website that it didn't sell It will now appear on their December Timed Auction, along with the other lots that didn't sell
This was a fantasy bike for me for a while, especially as my final year design project at Uni back in the 80’s was a hub centred front end (albeit based on the ELF design principle). https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155279978755?hash=item2427687103:g:Fo4AAOSwXapjdLqc&amdata=enc:AQAHAAAAoKLkCK1nEGgQ882N/krwspvYBC3J2DwFUMTfPxEBRic87w7OTGM1S41gOfALneD56I+qb0+UPfbhtfBtTCr2YyBLRQ2CCmqqXwOeGYZSNIMjqctaeqjrp6E5C/sBHH917+MZgymDo7pcjt+RgIEMe+WWwpb8ZcCUeue2kVXQYpS/MZmlbKw+D6Ew2Ao/ynv/49x3dPth/3LMShLUmynYQG0=|tkp:Bk9SR_K84uibYQ
I’m afraid not, just the design - geometry, materials, drawings (by hand!) and the structural analysis (also by hand). I still have the report and faded blueprints somewhere in the loft.

I wonder what the bike looks like today. The only current photo is of the mileage, the others of the bike are from 5 years ago. Andy
Probably the most sensibly priced 899 ive seen for sale in a while 2014 Ducati 899 Panigale ABS Super Sports Petrol Manual (148 bhp) 2013-14 898cc for sale for £7,500 in KESTON, BOROUGH OF BROMLEY (autotrader.co.uk)
True, but it doesn't mention the mileage anywhere, though I suppose you could get it from the MOT history, or phone them.
