Where Do You Carry Your Camera?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Wally, Sep 22, 2022.

  1. Micro 4/3 - relatively small cameras with small lenses, but still very capable cameras that produce large detailed images.

For record shots, use the Phone, but for pictures that you might want to enlarge and produce a print, then out comes the Panasonic G9. Keep it wrapped in a Football club hat and further wrapped in a plastic bag if it rains.

  2. Oh really? What type of lenses are we talking?

  3. for both of those subjects you will easily need 300mm upwards.
Wildlife will ideally want 500-600, I was using a 400mm last weekend and the heron got me long before I it.

Places like Silverstone I’ve used my 600mm and not even got close on a lot of the corners.

Just to give you an idea, my Fuji 100-400 5.6 -6.3 is £1600 ish and the sigma 150-600 new is similar and they’re nothing to special to be honest, throw in a camera body or two and some wide angle lenses for every day walk about and 5k disappears pretty quickly lol

  4. Forgetting the bulk, buying new an R5 with RF 100-500mm will set you back £7k. If you get the RF 600mm prime instead of the zoom then it’ll be nearly £18k.
Way out of the reach of my pockets. As I said before, a crack habit would be cheaper.

  5. I agree. Had a static tumble, engine off, on a gravel car park on Friday evening. My foot slipped as girlfriend dismounted from pillion. She was fine and remained upright, bike, 1260 MTS, was amazingly unscathed, even handguard, a few small scratches on bottom of pannier. Unfortunately I didn't fair so well, landed badly and managed to crack a rib. Was wearing Klim Marrakesh jacket, nothing in pockets, just bad luck. We were in the Limousin region of France, a few hundred miles to Caen. Managed to limp painfully home, Got back just gone midnight last night. F'ing painful at times. Can't imagine the damage had I had a hard object between myself and the ground, even at zero mph. Potentially leathal/very serious injury.

    Obviously your choice though.

  6. Ouch! Sorry to hear that. Luckily, state the world’s in, there’s not much to laugh about at the moment.

  8. Ive taken my Nikon D5 and 70-200 out using a Lowepro camera specific backpack and found it works well with plenty of extra space for other kit if needed, that said i've recently been eyeing up some of the kriega range of backpacks D51_1602-Edit-Edit.jpg IMG_20220926_120347.jpg

  10. Yes you can be in the zone with processing other roads users movements, but sometimes shit happens.

  11. I always feel like I have taken too much with me when touring anyway. So now just make sure the smartphone has good camera, they have come on a long way. Phone, quality camera and sat nav all accessible on the quadlock mount. Ip68 rated camera phone, no worries about the weather..

  12. So I’ve pulled the trigger. I’ve ordered an R5 with an RF 24-70 2.8 lens. I’m off to western Canada next month so that should give it a good shake down. Quite looking forward to getting back into it :D
