V4 Wind Tubulence

  1. thanks Tricolore, earplugs are a must indeed, I also have custom made plugs from Alpine, they fit well and on my previous naked bike I had no issues at all. It’s mostly this low rumble that I get on the multi V4… I hope the sport screen from Puig is the solution for me and if not I will go for the larger screen from Puig or Givi. Or the spacers from palmer products: https://www.palmerproducts.co.uk/products/select-bike-a-j/ducati-multistrada-v4-2021my/https://www.palmerproducts.co.uk/products/select-bike-a-j/ducati-multistrada-v4-2021my/

anyone who has had a positive experience with the palmer?

  2. A well documented subject, Puig sport screen and narrower bars with a slightly more forward position and i can ride all day at any speed.
Get the wind on your shoulders and not on your head.

  3. Thanks Mike, what do you mean with narrower bars and the more forward position? Do you mean these palmer spacings?

  4. Sounds like the PP as this has the narrow bars and more forward position .

  5. No, I have narrower bars, 90mm shorter overall, they move my riding position slightly further forwards, this seems to suit my height with a Puig screen.
Much easier getting around in London traffic.
There is a very detailed thread on here setting out the bar change.
I can ride at any speed with no buffering.
    Suits me.

  6. Hi,

on a Multi V4, being 6,4", turbulence and noise are always an issue, whatever the bike. Through many years I have been testing all available stuff for my bikes, several screens per bike, deflectors, helmets...

Surprisingly what was considered by press reviews and initial comments of users a magnificent wind protection is turning into exactly the same problem almost every bike has from stock.

In my case, sometimes even worse than the noise (not that much buffeting with OEM screen), is the wobbling of whole torso while driving in traffic. The bike is stable as a rock, but the shaking is uncomfortable. Gear is not slim, truly.

Anyway, PUIG, which was fine on GS, is quite annoying to look at, so went for GIVI. Not bad result. But still suffering with noise (three different helmets, all flips but top end including C5).

Driven up sometimes it is almost quite, probably a matter of wind direction, after a short while it becomes loud again. Surely much less than stock, of course, though not enough.

So ordered Calsci large, not XL, which is roughly 5cms higher and considerably wider as GIVI. This should be enough (hopefully). The shield is in transit, it will still take a while due to customs. Report when installed and tested follows.

    regards
    Alex

  7. Thanks Alex, curious how this will work…
I ordered the Puig sportscreen; it was a little better than the Pikes peak screen but not enough to make serious difference. So I returned it.
Then I tried the Puig touring screen which I could buy second hand. It looked quite large being taller and wider than the stock screen so I had big expectations. I tried it but it was the worst so far with lots of low rumble turbulence , to such extend that after 10 minutes I returned home to take it off. If anybody wants it, let me know you can buy it for 50 euro (Netherlands)….

so far the best option is still no screen at all. There is more wind but at least clean air flow. I mounted my navigator mount (with spacers made from garden hose) and it does not look too bad at all….(see pictures). also bough a new helmet, Shoei GT Air 2 (I had a scorpion exo). The advantage of this helmet is that the comm system is integrated which helps the airflow. First impression is that this combination seems to work although I have to give it a good test with head winds. I will keep you updated….
