Hi All, advice needed please. I am starting a winter strip down & refurb of my 998, I have got to the point where I need to remove the airbox, I have removed the 6 retaining bolts, but I can't see how to remove the injectors. All advice welcome. Thanks
If they're attached to the funnels, try twisting them (funnels) to the left or right. Other than that I have no idea. Good luck.
You need to remove the tie wraps holding the injector loom to the fuel pipe, there's metal clips that lock the connectors to the injectors press them from underneath and they'll release, remove the loom thru the bottom of the airbox with the rubber washer (Mark the horizontal & vertical connectors) there's a grey coloured quick release fitting on the fuel pipe slide the outer bit up and it should release. Grip the inlet trumpets and rotate them anti clockwise about 45 degrees there are metal clips holding in the throttle bodies, once both rotated you should be able to pull both trumpets out with the fuel lines attached, it's a bit tricky as they're a nice snug fit make sure your holding the trumpets and not the thinner plastic injector bridges. HTH
You also need to pop out the oil breather pipe and there's a drain pipe at the bottom in the front of the airbox which will also pop out. You might be better fixing the airbox back on until you've removed the innards.
While your busy at play, drill and lock wire the bolts for the front tank mount. It's not unknown for them to go disappearing down the horizontal inlet while riding if the new boy at the factory was building it.
Apologies for the very old thread, but I'm in the process of installing a new CF airbox. Unfortunately I removed the old airbox months ago, and cannot remember where everything goes Does anyone know what is supposed to go in the hole with the red arrow? I've looked on the bike and can't see anything obvious that it should connect to. Is it for a fastener to hold the airbox to the frame?
