996 Invaluable Info/facts Thread For 996r

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by 92GTA, Dec 6, 2022.

  1. Were the 996R already equipped with the IAW 59M ECU (like the 998) or was it still the 1.6M?

As far as the front stand goes, I doubt there was a specific one adapted to the 996R forks. Never heard of it. The best front stand you can use for these SBK is the type that goes under the lower triple clamp. That will allow you to remove wheel, calipers and fork tubes.

And you will need this type of support as the lower T hasn’t got a hole in it, unless the R is different.

  2. Yep, that would make sense, but we need proof.

  3. Yes, the 996R had the IAW 59M.A2 ECU and used the same tune as the 998S.

  4. I like that front stand, good idea. Short of a period-correct grey Ducati made front stand existing, I might go with that.

  5. The original 59M ECU is definitely not worth a grand.

    Check this website: https://nrbike.fr/reprogrammation-flash-ecu/ducati/996/reprog-superbike-996r.html

    230€…
These guys are very famous here in France. They have a good stock of blank 59M. All labeled 996R. You give them the configuration of your bike and they’ll send you the perfect fit. I did this for my 50 Arrow exhaust on my 998 Matrix.

  6. Great, that's good to know. That's probably the lowest priority on my list but eventually, it would be good to have a street ECU to go with the street silencers.

  8. And getting genuine Ducati OEM air to inflate them with is going to be tricky.

  11. I came across this link that might help, or just add to the confusion:
    https://www.bikeiconics.com/product/996sps-foggy/ .
I can't vouch for the information it contains, and have been unable to verify the account it provides so far.
    Tom.
I've had a look at Falloon's The Ducati- 6th Edition, and it states: "The final series of 996SPS Factory Replicas was also produced for 2000, the Factory Replica 2, or 'Pista' (circuit) ..."
Also, for 1999: "The 996SPS continued as for 1998 but for minor changes."

  13. That looks wrong. That era was not su-er stretch materiel. I had one for my sps and that was more like the one xh posted and material hangs, it is fitted, with elasticated hem

  14. That can’t be era related.

I understand the 996R OEM cover was made of a very light and perishable material. No clue why Ducati didn’t provide better quality for this top end bike. But I can also tell you I have a genuine 916 cover (p/n 919.1.001.1A) on my SP3 and it’s made of a beautifully sewn heavy and durable material, totally stretchable. 35109C50-B876-4B63-A5E3-EB2160F48F2A.jpeg 28BEA614-FE42-46F2-957E-1831C3826565.jpeg 29816958-06BA-4F4F-B156-7523C42B11BB.jpeg 33A19A79-9B8C-4B29-9336-D04A47E1ABF2.jpeg

  15. Mine was a 98 sps, the cover was nothing like that iirc, and I don’t recall any covers for bikes being that full stretchy materials for many years after that.

  16. Lovely but i'm with bradders on this one unless you can prove otherwise with that more modern material.:thinkingface::thinkingface:

  17. I’ll try to get a closer look see if there are any labels. Some companies may have been hired by Ducati to produce specific covers at some point in time. You know, before it went corporate in 1999, things may have been a little less predictable but a little more « arty » (quality, quantity, shape) ?

  18. Perhaps they spent far too much money on the 916 generation and we the 996r owners got the cheapened down version.

  19. I don’t known. It’s a complete mystery to me…
All I have right now is this, from the 1995 Ducati Special Parts catalog. It shows p/n 919.1.001.2A in red. Labels look more « Cagiva » period correct than mine with .1A, but the fabric on that picture looks like crap and definitely non stretchy. The picture is crap anyways…
