What Bikes Do You Wish You’d Owned?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by bradders, Dec 16, 2022.

  1. I was in market for bike around 2003, local dealer had a few 916s and a 888 sp4 all which I could of had instead of brand new 749 I ordered.... Probably the only new vehicle I'll ever own.

  2. If you think about it, for most of us on here I’d suspect most bikes are affordable nowadays, excepting anything over 35k as people won’t buy cars over that money. It’s just a question of justifying….. and what do you not buy instead!

  3. ^ this and avoiding putting rose tinted specs on.

  4. I’ve got a small bike/play fund: do I spend most of it on a ypvs or leave it for the next carbon/wheels/euro trackday purchase ;)

  5. 2005 GSXR750 I had the chance to buy one just like this when I sold my Rossi Replica CBR in 2005. I test rode one and it was an awesome bike to ride, the acceleration and handling was on a different level to the CBR. I had the cash to buy it too, but as I was moving abroad for a couple of years, I let it go. :(

  7. Bloody hell, that exhaust is MASSIVE!!!

  8. I'd go with the YPVS as I'd say it will be worth what you pay for a few years yet, maybe more.

But, I'd have a realistic expectation of performance.
I rode one very briefly about 10yrs ago, which was almost 25yrs since I sold mine.
A rose tinted visor, and probably the retention of just the good memories was evident.

  9. If you do go for one, get the one with an hydraulic clutch if you can :upyeah:

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  10. In the 1970s I considered a Vincent Rapide or a Triumph T160. But actually got a Ducati 750SS greenframe instead. Never regretted it.

  15. I bought an RC30 from Vin Duckett in around 1990! H69 WCW was the reg. number. Might have been same one....it had a slipping clutch (worn plates), took it back to them and they let a swing door hit the tail unit and cracked it!! d*ckheads
Other than that it was great on the road

  16. Like a few others here, I think a 1098 R
I came close to buying one around 2010 but at the time I think it was 10k plus my k8 gsxr 1000, that was all the money I had left after an accident payout and I bottled it

  17. The (badly painted) black 750 Bevel with a broken 4th gear that i saw in a breakers/spares shop in east London close to the Bow flyover in the late 80's. May have mentioned it on this site previously. I checked the engine and frame numbers at the time and believe it might have been a very early 7500ss.
Oh and perhaps the 955, coming in from south Africa that Pro Twins had. When i had that kind of money to play with

  18. Rothmans NSR250... (I might yet scratch this itch)
    RC30.
oh... and a Britten V1000... is that allowed within the rules?? :D

To add to the mix.. what is better.... One expensive bike or multiple cheaper ones? - I'm up to 4 Ducatis now for about 12K all in... admittedly bargains found! :upyeah:

    Gotta add a pic:

  19. Frankly, I'm glad I never owned anything that could properly kill me until I had learnt not to be quite so fucking stupid.

  20. I've been lucky in getting the bikes I fell on love with except
2 I missed when I was young and poor was an H2 Kawasaki and GT750 Suzuki triple.
