New office is only three miles or so away and decided I will cycle there and back. I'm fat and not interested in cycling as a sport, but a means to an end - plus less food and beverages of course. So, not looking for the best, but am I completely wasting my money going cheap? Found these two: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/YBPXKBRIV1/planet-x-kaffenback-sram-rival-1-bike https://www.tredz.co.uk/.VooDoo-Lim...6e66f141ff324&utm_source=aw&utm_medium=118327 Ride could be all road, but theres' a few cut throughs and fancy a gravel bike. Don't fancy buying used at this price not an issue.
The planet x bike looks good to me. Sram rival is decent enough groupset and is found on bikes double that price. Go for it, happy commuting.
Thanks for that. I thought it looked decent value. Lat question, I am just over 5'8" - on this type of bike would I be ok on the Medium? I can't imagine 18 stone me on a small 5′4″ to 5′8″ 480mm / SML 5′8″ to 5′10″ 500mm / MED
If you’re commuting amongst traffic, I would go for hydraulic brakes. Also, head down drop bars may not be best for visibility. Have you considered a hybrid? More upright, better view, can be bought with nice gears and brakes.
You know sometimes you just fancy a certain thing - that's me. I have a fancy full suspension mountain bike, but just attracted to this for the office and back. I know the roads well and will mainly be off the beaten track, but not that beaten. Price wise, if it gets robbed, I don't want to be too bothered, so that's why I'm going cheap, including the components to be fair.
Yes, I have a named car space (gaffer innit ) and can also bring it inside. The nicking was in general - popping into a shop, whatever. I want something specific, so posted that. Similar to saying I want to buy a Ducati, when I want a Multistrada, not a Scrambler, but there's always one...
I’d be gutted if any bike of mine got nicked I’ve a MTB that is a chitter worth nowt but still. I have a Hiplok d1000 to lock my bike up when out, my lad also uses it for his moped. Gets great reviews but pricey. I can see you’re being specific in your search as you haven’t just asked what would be an appropriate cycle.
To be fair, I have all the gizmo's and a fancy MTB, but just fancy something cheapo (ish), different and for the sole purpose of work and back. It won't be every day, if many days at all, but something I intend to use instead of the car - for the work journey, popping to the shop, or seeing the kids etc. Budget started sub a grand, but as happens, I kept creeping up, so decided to be strict and the Planet X looked decent value for its purpose.
T The Cafe n back has a cultish following on certain cycling forums. Gets good reviews been out a while, should have the ability to fit mudguards and panniers should the need arise. Surly sit in the same class but they are much pricier.
Cheers, yes it does and although you can get better models of the same bike, I just think the entry bike works for me. Wanted advice from anyone who knows more than me, which is a lot of folk!
If you’re just going to do your commute then either bike will be more than good enough. Fittings for mudguards could be a consideration for commuting. If you end up getting serious about road or gravel riding then you’ll probably want to upgrade anyway.
It's not though is it? I knew asking for cycle advice was a bollock drop. I've bought one now, so it'll have to do.
Which one did you get? Too late now but I’d go for the larger one - I prefer a bike that’s slightly large rather than too small.
