Stoner to retire

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by bigleggy3, May 17, 2012.

  1. The fishing ain't good round these parts, though. Although I'm keeping a watch out for one potential bite...

  2. Mr Emmett pumping out another great article - read it here.

That was one of the bset articals i have read in a long time

  3. Sad to see Stoner retire, but where does that leave Moto GP. With losing such a big talent, a small grid and no close racing at the front will it be overtaken by WSB or merge into one..

  4. As much as i will get flack for this, i'm not sure the sport as a whole will miss him all that much. He his hugely talented on a bike but his style does not make for great racing.

His lack of 'people' skills don't endear him to many and he never seems happy in what he is doing.

  5. That'd be great - then Ducati could have a 200cc advantage in MotoGP as well  .... I love my Duc (some days) as a road bike but the 'bigger engine for twins' rule in racing is a complete and utter farce.

  6. You are probably right. After all this means Rossi will back to being an alien. Yamaha will re sign him, as Jorge will be off to Honda.

That means all you Stoner Moaners can keep up your moaning, only this time it will be about Jorge, and how he is boring and predictable, and is a machine and never misses an apex and he has no soul or character.

You are right, he will be forgotten and things will be just as they are now.

If Rossi does not get a Yamaha, things will be very boring. Only Dani and Jorge up front, and if one falls off.......time to go mow the grass

  7. I'm sorry but I don't understand how Casey Stoners style dosnt make for great racing, it's Casey stoners style that actually makes the greatest spectacle currently on track in Motogp as he's leagues ahead of everybody else, even the rest of the grid know it and have commented on it numerous times (and they should know, not us)

The only reason people perceive its more boring with Stoner in it is because 99% of the time he'll run away with it, without him it will be a bunch of great riders more equally matched but where's the fun in that? What's the point in raining in talent just so the rest of the field look more equal?
itd be the same as Mohamad Ali being asked to get punched more for the fans just so he didn't continually outclass the opponents, nobody wanted to restrict his talent.

Motogp will be more boring IMO, not just because Casey won't be there but when the remaining top talent are leading the pack week in week out everybody will still know somebody out there is still better at least for another couple of years (if he stayed I doubt many would argue he'd be number 1)

...... That in itself is a sad thing, to have the greatest rider not riding can only ever make motop to be a 2nd best spectacle .

Oh well life goes on, but we need a new talent in town now :(

  8. I think VR has a backup plan, if he can't do anything with the Ducati by mid-season I recon there's a hint of an option for him somewhere else. Why would he announce that he's to race in MGP for 2 more seasons if he's likely to be a mid field finisher and continue to lose face.

  9. I will miss seeing this young man race and your comments are unfair. He never said that Rossi had no talent.Don't you regard a World Championship for Ducati something of an achievement?

  10. Agreed.

If that is what Stoner said then that would mean Rossi had zero ambition.

Stoners statement was his ambition outweighed his talent.

  11. I reckon he's giving up cos he's got by far the best bike now, but still can't shake off Lorenzo...

  12. Derek. Ffs. Stop moaning. Stoner chose to retire. Get over it!As for VR going to yamaha. Won't happen. Can't see lorenzo going. Its a known fact suppo is a arse to work under. But yamaha need a big sponsor. So maybe some truth in the coca cola rumour.

  13. Am not moaning, I admire his decision. I understand it too. At least those of us that realised it was him and not the Ducati that won in 2007 won't have to listen to you whiners moaning him about him anymore. You no doubt go back to moaning about "whoregay" or "pedrobot" or whatever other derogatory term is dreamt up to demean

    jorge to Honda

    Vale to Yamaha

    Is my prediction

  14. Sure sounds like moaning to me...

  15. The ducati was crap post 2007. They just needed a nice man to sought it out for them Not a not interested in it maoning type who would rather go fishing and sheep shearing. To my knowledge most of the greats retired hurt or age. I bet the likes of kev34 doohan rainey and co find this a strange affair. Some of your comments in this thread are bollocks. Good to see. Lol VR has tweeted about his future. And for the love of the sport.

  16. I admire Stoner's decision to if that's what he wants. Good for him if he's achieved what he wants. Isn't that what we all want from life?

All i am saying is i don't think the sport will miss him much.

  17. CS will be remembered as a 2 times motogp champ like others in the record books. I wonder who honda wants to win the title now ?I moneys on pedders.

  18. I'm afraid I agree with you. Stoner's mode of operation isn't fan-friendly; as effective as it is, clearing off to win by a mile ain't good viewing; and his post-race interview technique is snore-worthy. Good for him, not so good for the sport as a spectacle.

  19. Pedrosa's had as many chances as he's likely to get, but hasn't exactly showered HRC with winners' trophies. Always the bridesmaid...

  20. Which, let's face it, was pretty funny. It was an off-the-cuff comment from someone who was understandably a little peeved at being nerfed off.

I love the way armchair enthusiasts seem to have no empathy that falling off bikes at high speed and possibly winding up in hospital or killing yourself is like falling over in the playground. This is a dangerous sport and visiting the gravel trap is no fun. The bikes are doing in excess of 200mph down the straights. Don't you think it might be just a fraction frightening falling off at these speeds?

We get used to seem 'em bounce, but racers aren't made out of rubber. in the heat of the moment, you must have a lot of adrenalin coursing through your veins. TV makes it all look like Tom and Jerry.
