  1. My first car was a Morris Marina MK2 1.3 Super in Blaze Orange. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375389276.657840.jpg

It had been used as a garage run around car and was well worn to say the least. My dad fixed it up and resprayed it and within 5 weeks of turning 17 I passed my test and was the only one at college that could drive.
Lets just say it got a lot of use

Had 3 more marinas since though quite a gap since the first one back in 1993.

  2. Skoda S100 - the rear-engined one with the radiator in the back too - dark green, it looked like a Czech army staff car... That was replaced by a Vauxhall Magnum 1800... Then a MkII Spitfire - see pictures in the "convertibles" thread... Then I had my second Skoda - an S120 LE, the posh one with the radiator in the front !

  3. I had a Skoda S110R briefly, it was a 'fastback'. People laughed of course, but then I went round them on every bend and they stopped laughing. Til it burst into flames. £200 well spent.

  4. My dad phoned me and said 'I have a blue ford cortina, you want it, dealer wants 500 quid'......OK dad! Came home with the brightest yellow morris marina 1.3 you have ever seen. Had it for 3 years and remains the best car I have ever owned....at least it terms of how it was looked after! I was known as Bananaman by my mates...dunno if it was the car or summat else.

  5. In a weak sentimental moment you dream about reliving those pubescent times, the reality is that if you were presented with the same car today it would be a piece of shite.

I drove a friends pride and joy earlier this year, an immaculate Campaign Mk 1 Golf GTI, I have owned 16 Golfs over the years including virtually every version of the GTi, 16V, VR6 etc and the Mk 1 is supposed to be the holy grail, what a disappointment, the drive home in Mrs CF's Audi A3 2.0tdi was a more rewarding experience. Moral is never go back!

  7. Renault 19

  8. Triumph Dolomite 1850HL. British Racing Green with a Webasto full length sunroof. JSG985N. I installed my own alarm system, the only problem being to disarm it you had to open the bonnet which meant opening a door and therefore triggering the alarm. My neighbours were not impressed.

  9. 1983 talbot Solara GLS. All the toys, including power steering and electric windows. Bought for £100, spent 60 getting it through the mot, then sold 4 months later for £360. It was replaced with a black Renault 11 turbo, not bad wheels for a 17 year old...

  10. A Fiat 600 with no brakes that was was given to me a friend of my parents when I was 14. I used to thrash it around farm tracks and fields - great fun.

  11. 1963 Ford Cortina 1500 Super with bench seat, 'umbrella' handbrake and column change - front seat didn't get misused anywhere near enough.

  12. Got me thinking about how I managed to afford to drive back in the day. When I was out in and about in my green mini trying to pull birds and doing hand brake turns fuel was 39p a litre

    Petrol Prices

  13. golf MK 2 GTI 16V from '91.
it had an oettinger engine and was way to fast for a first car.
took my a full two weeks before i flew off the road with it.
i was 20 years old and thought i could drive:biggrin:

    henk!!!

  14. My First car a Holden HQ Monaro, was not as good condition as this and didn't even need keys to start the bloody thing, 5Lt V8, did great burnouts and cost me alot of money in tyres:upyeah:

  15. As least you could bounce

  16. Ford Cortina MkI GT500. I'll dig up a pic tomorrow.

  17. 1967 MGB in British racing green with wire wheels and overdrive.I changed the rear lever arm shocks for adj Konis and fitted an Abarth exhaust system.I loved that car to bits and only sold it to fund a marriage. The car is still around somewhere as it is on the ins register.

  18. Alfa GT Junior 1300 Bertone coupé 1972.

A friend of mine was an Alfa nut and after 3 weeks of this thing in his local paper, he couldn't resist buying it, although he didn't need it and was going to emigrate to Canada. So he sold it to me for £600. Problem was, I was about to go to Australia, so the car was stored at his parents in London and I paid him £100 for 6 months. When I came back, it was mine.

It was left-hand drive and had Milanese plates under the English ones. I loved it - it was very cool and being LHD, no one wanted to steal it - you could even leave it overnight on a Hackney council estate and it was still there next morning. It was also full of rust and had loads of things wrong with it. It died when it was obvious it would never get through a Swiss MOT (that and the water in the oil...).

  19. Hillman Minx in grey, cost me £35. Painted the bonnet florescent pink, my mate had same with lime green bonnet. We terrorised Southend with them in the early 70's.

  20. A 1976 Datsun 260Z that I bought in 1981 and paid £1500 for. It rusted like fuck, but what a great first car. The value of an early, nicely restored, Datsun 240Z is now about 30k. I loved it.
