  1. Price drop….. Now £400

Here is an interesting lathe I’m selling, welcome your thoughts on it.

Quite a special Drummond lathe that belonged to my Great Uncle who was a mad inventor and a designer for Ford in the early days.

The lathe is now about 100 years old, has been well modified. It is 4 inch Chuck centre so can spit an 8” diameter, has also been extended to approximately 20 “ centres.

I put a new 1hp motor and starter on it 2 yrs ago as the 70 yr old motor and speed controller died.

The motor drives a belt to a 3 speed bsa gearbox then to the lathe main shaft via a hand operated clutch. Also has a reduction gear assembly fitted.

It has an awesome 6 inch 4 jaw chuck. Auto feed via all the pre health n safety gears and everything works as it should.

Comes with all the tool holders pictured, 2 face plates, centre chuck, centre support bracket and a stack of gears and hand written thread cutting chart.
    £500

  2. Beautiful thing. GLWS bargain.

  3. Very nice. I served my time as a maintenance fitter and spent the first year at a training centre covering all trades. I must admit turning/machining were probably my favourite subjects. I certainly scored best in the phase tests for turning. They tried to get me to switch but I feared a life on a capstan lathe back then. The thought of having to knock out a thousand rivets a day didn’t appeal to me… It’s how my (then) 16 year old brain worked….

  6. so tragically true, you've reminded me of some footage I stumbled on only this year which I wish I hadn't seen and now can't unsee. I won't be linking it, or even giving any clues.
