  1. This was my thinking…

  2. With 20 and 30 mph speed limits everywhere in the city a 400SS would suffice

  4. Well! I did it! Closed for £1500, which was a little rich, but we’re still up, and I defy anyone to get a cleaner bike at that kind of money.
Maiden voyage home was a genuine thrill, what a charming little machine this is!

  6. Lovely, many happy miles.

Hope that green sticky stuff isn’t hiding a porous tank?

  7. Bad paint job: tank is mercifully sound. The thing really has been babied, lost service was £1300 worth.

  12. Looks good - enjoy!
However…Just indulge me on this one - the swingarm pivot normally has rubber bungs over it - if that’s what it is in the picture, all good.
But if it is the pivot pin I can see in the picture, it looks like it is riding out. There are snap rings either side to keep it in place so you don’t have to over-torque the clamp bolts, but if these are missing, the pin can ease itself out over a decent ride. Unlikely to actually drop the swingarm on one side but better safe than…

  13. Bloody hell, good eyes. You’re absolutely right.
Looks like those snap rings are missing. Is there a part number for these and the bungs? Where should I look? There will be many more of these novice questions

  15. Agree with the older post - some combinations of spindle length and swingarm mean the circlips won’t fit, but in principle, it should have them, and they will fit if when it is centred you can see both ring grooves.

  17. You’re welcome :upyeah:
The closing clearance on the rear cylinder exhaust valve looks a little loose too :joy:
