  6. @Ninestonecowboy believe you met the infamous skidlids too….he has a dozen of these SS ‘s in parts ;)

  7. Thanks both, was not aware of this at Kempton Park, note next one in March?

May well have to pop along as Mike (MD Racing) was to service the 600SS this February, however, the chat we had last week advised he did not have a Ducati trained mechanic and was on the look out for one ;(

Will need the belts swapped etc, so will try Mike again next month to see if he has had any luck hiring…

  8. Not everyone in interested to do it themselves of course, but if you have done a bit of spanner work on cars or bikes in the past, you could certainly replace belts and do routine servicing on the 2v air cooled motors. It all adds to the Ducati experience.

  10. Try not to hang on with your hands and use your inner thighs instead

  11. Ha! My lanky levers do that just fine, more to do with the -4 degrees morning. At least the sun was out and I got there a bit quicker than on my Bantam.

  12. Update: I’ve been waiting for ULEZ documents to come through, so have been quietly fettling the bike in my free time after work.
All fluids changed, new oil filter, new plugs, belts examined (changed 200m ago) and err, paint.

Before donning my nomex undercrackers, I will say the only reason I ended up doing this is the “repair” paint hadn’t cured and was like treacle.
What followed was a truly monumental undertaking that essentially meant going right down to the original primer. I never want to see a sanding disc ever again.
It’s certainly not factory, it’s not even excellent amateur standard, but it is truly light years better than what was on there…

  13. I’ll almost certainly downsize the Agip sticker, or find another more obscure sponsor to go on there, gotta finance all that paint somehow…

the most soul destroying part of this, was stripping the terrible paint off the fuel tank, which was essentially still partially liquid, to reveal a practically flawless factory paint job!

  14. One thing I will say is classic car paints do a wonderful job. Rattle cans have come a long long way, even I can get things to look like this!

  15. Anyway: I’m sure I’ll get pelters for going off piste, but I’m very pleased with it. I think it’s a major improvement: here’s what it was like before.

Here’s hoping it gets a bit warmer soon, I’m desperate to get it all back together again this week to go for a shake down!
