The bit that i liked was the bits fitted. I was talking to him about a thumb brake at one point and in fairness he pointed me in a different direction to what i thought because of the room on the bar wasnt going to be enough for the type i was looking at. Ive not heard anyone say anything different about other bits he sells. Mine was already tweaked by him and it had a bloody good power curve and thats disregarding the power output. Off topic slightly was learning that you cannot believe whats in these magazines. Sure thats obvious sounding but i was proper done over by my OW. The guy was prominent in some magazines about what he had done and the magazine just loved him. Off i went to him safe in the knowledge my bike was in safe hands. Not. One complete rebuild later i was given a bike back that didnt run . Just about started but wouldnt run . I had to get a different person , Mark at BSD, to strip it down and find out why and it was a bloody mess inside. Then after some digging we found out more horror stories about other peoples bikes having the same problems . One lasted just 2 laps of Cadwell before totally blowing its guts out. Basically the guy has access to all the parts and could bolt an engine together but couldnt actually build an engine to any tolerances .
I agree mate, this does worry me... I tend to only go on the experiences mates have had, so for example there is a guy near where I live, my mate had his 2CR 'refreshed' to the tune of £4500 and the guy could talk the talk etc then after 3 laps in spain, running the engine in, it dropped a valve.... This guy incidentally had run it in on the dyno with his 'special tweaked map' and claimed it was perfect. My mate was finding it felt super super lean and abrupt.. anyway... My mate then giving him the benefit of the doubt that it could genuinely be a broken valve spring sent it back to him and he replaced the pistons and installed another used cylinder head, giving it a good check over. Sure enough... back straight at silverstone and 4th gear, BEMSEE meeting, the thing throws a rod. the 'tuner' was in our garage that day, sheepishly said "oh it's gone bang, damn" and just seemed oblivious to the co-incidence that a bike that's done 4+ seasons flawless work is now carnage. When we took the engine out, we found all the bolts for the starter motor loose, in my eyes, that attention to detail on a less critical part that tells a story. Anyway, end of story time! Just like the S1000 thing, be careful what you read I guess. Now if someone could help me decide what the hell to do with my R1, I'd really appreciate it! I can't afford to ride it this year really, but do I return it to road spec (which needs things like tyres/MOT) and try to sell it, or keep it and then next year I'll have paid for it. The cost of bikes is so silly at the mo that yes I might sell it for a bit more but whatever I buy will be horrendous, there are 600's advertised at £7500-9k with big mileage on them.
that's the slightly preferred option, a year of no riding is a damn shame but if values are high, now's the time to sell surely. I will NOT be trying to sell it as a trackbike as they are worth next to nothing relative to clean MOT'd road bikes.
Prices are strong. I let my 2015 low mileage track / road bike go for £9.5 1.5 years ago. I look back and think i gave it away but at the time i didnt. Get it road ready for April and let it go then .
Makes me wonder about my 1299. But I know if I sell it, like the 911, I’ll never get another and regret it
Fire the 12 along the back straight on Almeria, and there isnt much going to pass you. Not even matey boys latest BMW sthou could overtake me. The 12 is pretty good tbf.
That would be down to you and the other riders differing ability I think. S1000rr gen 4 would wipe the floor with a Pani 1299 with equal riders.
You need a long straight to get away, as the grunt on 1299 should get out quicker and IL4 would need to be up in the revs at top end to catch and pull away. With equal riders. Often ‘blowing it away’ is 2-4mph difference and later on the brakes.
Those new s1000rr are quick. My gixer keeps up with most stuff, but I passed one coming out of theeft o to the long straight at aragon. He sailed passed me half way down the straight. Did him on the brakes at the end though
Try it on the mway with a mate. I never believed it til I did. 1mph actually looks quite a lot if you narrow it down to a 10m wide track, ie 2 lanes on mway.
What’s that got to do with top speed? From a standing start power is nothing: traction and launch everything.
