My 848 Corse SE is way too vibey!

  2. You're assuming that I'm asking for a solution. I'm not. I'm asking for information, which is what internet forums are for.

    So as you rightly say none of you know the bike so you have to treat the question hypothetically. IF the engine is at fault (regardless whether it is or not) I'm asking what kinds of things can cause it.

    So far I've learned the ECU can cause it as can time and miles. What else?
     
  3. How can an ECU cause vibes? If it creates a fuelling issue, surely thats hesitance not vibes.
     
  4. According to Buckers swapping the ECU helped. But it could have been something else they also did.

    I'm not saying one way or the other, I'm just gathering info. If all the ECU does is control fuel (does it do something else??) then yes I can see that vibes might not be ECU related. But maybe its more complicated than that.

  6. They changed the Ecu for stalling and idle issues, as well as a service/tune.
    The smoother running could have been a better state of tune from the service as much as the ecu.

    On a twin TB balance is critical for low speed smoothness but less so for higher throttle openings so a tune would affect the lower revs more than the higher revs imo.

    I would agree a very savvy dealer would be high on my list of things to do next if miles don't improve it. (for me "savvy" would preclude riders). A simple setup issue with the TPS/Tb's or a tight belt might be all it is. The fact it's new doesn't mean Louigi built it spot on. My forks came with 50% less oil in one leg to the other so i take nothing for granted.

  8. Yeah I read on a forum (here?) that somone's new bike had an idler wheel on backwards, so I don't take things for granted either. It's Italian after all :)

    TPS/TB, is that mechanical or electronic (sorry I've no experience of bike's innards and only a rough idea of what's going on inside). Thanks for the help though. I will give Riders a shot first so I at least will have some questions I can ask about what they checked, like you say it could be a tight belt or something simple. If it's more complicated not sure where I need to go.
     
  9. The TB setup is just matching the fueling of both cylinders so one is not leaner or richer than the other, and in the right zone CO wise. - 20 mins on a gas analyser will check that.

    TPS tells the Ecu your throttle position so it can make fueling changes to match. if it's is not right the running will be off. There is a guy on another forum that had a really bad surging issue from bad TPS setup. Again not a biggy for a dealer with the diag gear.

    There are too many variables to second guess it. You can make symptoms fit 20 different causes and none of them might be right.

  10. Get the ECU balanced along with the crank. The additional mass of the ECU can cause excessive imbalance.

I would reset your TPS, balance your flange bracket, empty the top breather hose, clear the Ltwin pathway, make sure they are set at 90 degrees and then, if the above advice doesn't work, take it to the dealer and get them to ride it. They might say it's not right and fix it or they might say it's what the bike does. If the other bike didn't do it, it sounds like there's something wrong. What's wrong? Don't know.

    They swapped the ECU because of the poor running and the intermittent fault messages on the dash, I never complained about the vibes because I thought that was normal. Swapping the ECU plus the annual service was all they did other than chain adjustment. It definitely is running much better and the lower rev vibes are much less noticeable.

    I had also had issues with the quick-shifter from time to time like other people have mentioned but that works a dream now too.

    It's under warrantee so given what I know now I would get a good dealer to look it over. Don't know where you live but the guys at Snells in Alton did a great job of mine.

  17. +1 for this thought. I recently had a new rear tyre fitted. Having overdone the enthusiasm on a new rear a couple of years ago, I took it really easy for the first 100 or so miles, read lower than normal revs. I found my hands were going numb from vibration that I never usually have. Happy the new rear is now bedded in, I'm riding as I usually ride again, no vibration... other than the usual, non-problematic, V-twin kind :tongue:

  20. about an hour and half on a dyno or a days damn good thrashing. Being serious, just check the bike over for looseness on bolts, are the balance weights still on the wheels, is wheel alignment ok. Simple things to check, and take it back to your dealer and tell em its going like a rampant rabbit and you dont like.
