18 miles of the South Downs Way. Well the last three days actually. Couple of nights in Meonstoke, made it from Coombe/Mercury to Cheesefoot head. Now just have to drop down into Winchester. Started 9 1/2 years ago from Eastbourne, managed 50 miles in segments in the first year, then it all went pear shaped. With three bright days forecast thought we'd better make some progress before one of us or the dog dies!!

 

Had a relaxing day at home and treated myself to a fancy lunch.

Tried to replace my garage tap as when I turn it on, water just dribbles out. I turned the water off at the mains but it didn’t stop the water dribbling out!?! The stop cock worked as all the other taps in the house stopped working so I’m guessing the tap in the garage is fitted in the system before the stop cock? It’s beyond me

 

That’s doubtful, maybe as it’s one of the lowest on the system it’s draining from above?
Or frozen?
Or a seizure with the moving parts internally.
Either way take it apart and give it a good coat of looking at and a good coat of a suitable lubricant
It’ll be as right as rain.

Ok, I’ll have another look tomorrow. It’s been like that since we moved in about 18 months ago. I’ve bought a new tap assuming that will sort it out. I’ll turn the stop cock off tomoz and slowly undo the tap and see what happens. What’s the worst that could happen….

 

Took our daughter back to uni in Brighton. Booked onto a nearby campsite and stayed Saturday night. Lovely walk this morning, could see for miles.

 

You'll find one or two come from cold storage water tank in the loft, which's a silly installation, you need it from the main inlet water supply.

 

Ah I see, assuming it is fed from the tank in the loft, the pressure would be a bit rubbish?

 

If the tap is outside, just take the tap off and quickly put the other one on. You might get a little wet, but easy enough. Can you not turn it off at the street

 

I did investigate the street but didn’t have the key thingy to unlock the lid

 

Not known one need a key, usually they just flip up, or if it's a cross in the middle, just hook something in and pull it up. Might pay to run a screwdriver round the edges to get the debris out

 

Dinner was bought for me but I did see the bill and it was more than we would usually spend (just a bit more than double) but the evening was a memory maker Andy

 

The hangover will soon be gone (it's the second bottle that always does me in too). The memories should last longer.

 

Exactly but some idiot plumbers have done this in the past and just confusing the householder.

 

Feeling delicate this morning as we drank way more than we should yesterday, but it was a great day.

 

So I took the rap off and the water just dribbles out the pipe despite the position on the stop cock! The pipe disappears into the garage floor so I have no idea where it goes. Any clues anyone?
