what was your first car

  1. I bought one in the 1990's for my Missus to practice her driving on. It was like a little go-cart, handled really well, did 75mph with a tailwind and was bags of fun. It had been rust protected from new and was in great condition. I was sad to see it go.

  2. Good god, I coughed to having an allegro as my first car and I am left high and dry now. Nobody else ever owned an Austin allegro?

  3. My second car was an Austin Allegro Estate in some sort of orange colour, bought after smashing up my Hillman Hunter !
Repaired the Hunter and sold the Allagro :upyeah:

  4. First car on the road was a Ford Anglia 1200 Super. first do-er-upper at 15-16 was a Dolly 1500.

There is a few Avengers on here, I had a MK1 Tiger for a while. I'll try and find the pics.

  5. I never sank to the depths of owning an Avenger but I did run a Talbot Sunbeam for a while and that was essentially a shortened hatchback Avenger with all the same problems.

  6. I remember mine started crabbing, managed to get it home to find the rear lower arm that supports the spring had rotted through.

  7. Mk1 golf

  10. If I could, I'd award you post of the year for that one :upyeah:

  11. I was only thinking about Talbot after reading these reply's, my boss had a brand new Talbot Horizon in 1982. Who were Talbot and what happened to them ?

  12. 1963 Consul (Cortina) Estate, Reg 634FLY purchased for £120 with 92000 on the clock, Green. Sold it because my first ex-wife didn't like the fact it had a minor bump in the wing. Sold to my Uncle and met it's end when the front wheel came off when he was going down a hill. Nobody injured, car pronounced dead at the scene !

  13. A 1981 Fiat 131 mirafiori, cost me £500 & I sold it for £500. Happy days!

  15. A 1974 1300E escort. It lasted 80 miles or so in my hands after a 2 year bare shell rebuild . My father was not happy. I was the third owner, he was the second. Bought in 1978. Stored from 1980 to 1985. Rebuilt 86 & 87, written of 88

  16. Jeez you're all so old ;-p

  17. Ford Corsair in british racing green. £100 off my dad. Had another one later, a V4. If there was a hole in the bodywork, a Duckams oil can used to do the trick with a few self tappers and some Unterbodenshutz.

  18. Mine was a 1978 Chrysler Avenger 1300. Sweet corn yellow with brown vinyl trim. I fitted a sharp cassette radio and sharp speakers in on the back shelf.........I was king of the road and permanently repairing and spraying the front wings, bottom of doors and rear wheel arches. Sold it to an old couple when it looked pristine and did I feel guilty NO .

  19. Fiat 131 Supermirafiori..........in yellow (plus a lot of rust)

I was amazed at the time because it had a 5 speed gearbox, in the days of 4 speed Chevettes and Escorts.
