Hi All, BIG DILLEMA. Looking here for "the wisdom of the Ducati community" All reactions very much appreciated! I need to make room, owning 6 bikes and room for only 4. So my MTS 1100S from 2007 and my BMW R1150RS from 2001 are up for sale. About the MTS: 1100S full Ohlins 2007 in pristine condition 17k miles and complete service history. Not a scratch. Selling here in NL the complete bike would go for around 4700 Euro. Searching the internet for used parts I came up with a list. All major parts together on my bike, would fetch around 6K market price. All of the parts offered on eBay etc. are in less condition/older when compared to this bike. So... I'll take 20% off for unsold parts and I'll still end up with 4800 euro for used parts sold. Not an easy bike when it comes to selling used parts, but the whole of Europe is my client. I do have experience with selling parts over the internet and the pitfalls of eBay recently. Below you'll find MY list of "going prices" in euro's Am I correct, to much expectations or missing something ? TIA! Frank. Hi Franck, Selling a bike in parts is highly time consuming… 1/ It takes time to take it apart; 2/ It takes a lot of time to advertise for all the parts; 3/ It will take time and generate much frustration to deal with all the buggers that will inevitably contact you to get the Showa fork for 150€, etc. 4/ It will take time to package and post sold parts. That and storage. It’ll take some room for a while. Sometimes up to a year… An 1100S in pristine condition will sell! If you decide to sell it as a whole, please send me a link to your listing and I’ll pass on to our French forums. More and more people are looking for these. Keep us posted!
Thanks! ..... I enjoy taking things apart and not having to re-assemble.... Advertising. no problem, I am a photographer and know how to advertise. Having to deal with buggers.. yeah.. I know.. for them: just take it or leave it. Package and posting is a PITA. Biggest mental hurdle.. taking a perfectly good bike apart and sell it in parts, but possibly making a profit. pictures attached.
"Biggest mental hurdle.. taking a perfectly good bike apart and sell it in parts, but possibly making a profit." ;-) I bought a BMW 1100RS 2 years ago for 600 euro's to convert to a bobber.. could not find the time to finish it after the economy woke up after corona .. spent around 250 euro on it... an then discarded my project and expected it to be a 850 euro loss, until I sold it in parts for 950+ euro... while still owning the wheels, brakes and gearbox...it's a strange world.
A guy did that to a perfect 748, recently, on our forum. Took it apart for routine maintenance shortly after buying it. Then decided he should take the engine out (really…), then decided to split the cases (Lord knows why…) and got stuck when he couldn’t reassemble. Next thing, he sells it in parts. He had done exactly the same to a ST2 the year before. Seriously… I think I felt disgusted.
Nice way of circumnavigating subscription cost for sale ad, like it Having done this a few times, it can take a long time to clear the parts and you always have lots left over. Fairly unique bike, so things like motor wheels suspension probably very narrow sales area where many ducatis will fit multiple models. So if you want ease sell as is: if you stripping stuff and don’t factor in the cost of your own time strip it
OK... reading the reactions, Thanks! I'll sell the bike as a whole and make someone happy and forget about some extra profit and a lot of extra work, Thanks again! Anyone in NL? 4700 euro and it's yours.. ;-)
