I went a couple of years ago and after our fun and games the Moto2 boys had the track. a few of them still changed up a gear when most of us had been starting to roll off / brake !! Jesus, it was a combination of amazing and humbling to watch.
100%. I went out at Cadwell with Billy McConnel. He was on an R6 and me on my 999R. Coming into Coppice I was on the brakes and he hooked another gear as he screeched past me…. And he was out of sight going down Park Straight… It’s a good job I’ve got a day job
We all have to remember though that whatever level you are at this happens... I used to be quite a bit slower, I'm lucky in that I'm now at a pace that some of my friends can't see me after maybe half a lap, but then my other mate comes past me and within 4-5 corners he's out of sight, then there are superstock guys on from him that make him look average. It's all about just maximising what you can and having as much fun as you can as we all know. FF1 and FF2 though on a hot day don't get the respect they deserve, it's so so easy to run in there hot, and shut the throttle and just overload the front, or likewise run in really hot and pick up the throttle too much and drop the front. My mate has done both those things, they both resulted in S1000rr's with cracked frames.
Crafar told me to always trust the front on a closed throttle- provided you’re off the brakes. So far so good
I think I'm back to planning on selling the R1, I do really like it but for road riding, and the occasional trackday and the 'theatre' I simply just want a 899/959 more than the R1. I'll post it up in the For Sale Section when I've got it back together.
oh, yeah fine.. no problems, I can sit at the back of the seat and get my arms and elbows in tight to the tank, with the f3, my knees meant that my arms were always out mx style, you can see it in my profile pic
I've nearly finished the R1 now, it's looking fantastic and I haven't even detailed it yet! Hoping to get the tyres through this week, and then get it MOT'd ready for sale. I went with Metzler M9RR as I didn't want to be trying to sell a sportsbike with crap tyres on, just sends the wrong message, plus I was only going to save £40 by putting old model pirelli's etc on there, so went with a smart tyre. I had a WeBuyAnyBike valuation for a laugh.... let's just say they aren't just lowballing, they are like £3500 under what you would expect a trade in to be, but looking at Superbike Factory (who I think they sell into) they have about 25 R1's in their inventory at the moment, so I imagine they have a way to steer the offers. They haven't stopped stalking me though... you can reply 'STOP' to the text and it tells you you are unsubscribed, but only from that particular agent it appears! I've been contacted twice a day since.
