Either are good choices. The full Akra is a nice system with a one size fits all map. You get to keep your warranty and a considerably lighter wallet. The BHP alternative is an interesting one. From what I’ve read, the map goes a lot deeper into the engine management system than the standard Ducati map. It removes in-built restrictions on power in the first few gears, as well as a few other things. If I hadn’t got the full system, I’d be very interested in the BHP set up. I think it would a decent bit louder too. I’d be happy with that as the Ducati pipe could do with a few more dbs! It’s a big boys* choice, if it goes wrong with the BHP set up, I’d be expecting the dealer to try and wash their hands of it. Of course both are illegal for road use, but for the love of god, let’s not debate that shit show again! * and girls obviously…
Shame they couldn’t design a different end can for the full Akra, from a few feet away it looks exactly the same as the standard PP, on the 1260 the Termignoni not only changed the performance but improved the look of the bike... I’ll probably still get one
I will share this experience. I had my Panigale V4S dyno tuned because Arrow exhaust and dyno tune is much cheaper than factory Akrapovic option. I started with an upmap arrow tune but it was lean in the midrange (flat) and I'm picky. Needless to say, on about the 5th iteration of dyno tuning, the flash didn't take and my ecu was bricked. Took it to the dealer, their factory software couldn't communicate. They pulled the ECU and sent it to Ducati. Ducati couldn't revive it. $3800Cdn later for a new ECU made this option NOT cheaper than the factory upgrade option. I've heard of a few people now having issues flashing the newer V4 ecu's. There does not seem to be a 100% reliable way into these ECU's yet, or at least flashing them is not mainstream yet. Every bike I have had (lots) have been dyno tuned without issue . These newer Ducati Conti M4D ecu's seem to be another story. Needless to say I am picking up a V4S rally this year and it will be getting factory Akra full system, as I am not risking that whole ordeal again. Not only the cost, I lost the use of my bike for months between the shipping the ECU in and waiting for a replacement ECU. Also, the factory Akra maintains warranty where as all flashes will void the warranty if you have engine problems. Not going to take that risk on the Multi.
There is no way an ecu costs even a third of that. It’s outrageous companies can profiteer in this way.
I suppose they could argue they're recouping R&D and after sales parts is part of that. Probably less than £1,000 worth of materials in a Pikes Peak yet they charge £30k anyway.
Thanks for the recommendation however that's not very close to me. Would still mean a hotel and a whole day stopover. If I was going to do that would probably just use BHP UK for the remap as well. I think I've been convinced on the Ducati upgrade option now anyway. Thanks all!
