I know I'm going to regret this, but I'm putting my lovely 900SS up for sale Space is the main reason, as I'm thinking about another bike. Four is my absolute limit. I bought the bike from a friend of our @sev and forum member Joe, and it was absolutely as described. Here's the main blurb from his advert he issued in summer last year: Q plate white frame: 13700 miles Fully serviced in March this year with motul 10/40 and new oil filter, new belts (original ducati) carbs stripped, ultra sonically cleaned and rebuilt from Ducati London with receipt) Brand new Tyres, Michelin pilot power 2 ct (not even 150 miles on them) Comes with MRA tinted screen, had an extensive inspection from Ducati London to check if anything was needed and had the carbs tuned from them. Runs like a dream, pulls very well and burns no oil. She is truly spotless The service was completed in March last year. It is on a Q plate, which gave me little problem insuring it. I set up a new policy (so zero NCB) and the cost was around £200 pa fully comp. Mileage is currently a shade under 14000. MOT expires 4 May. If this sells, my only stipulation is I'm offered first refusal as/when the buyer decides to sell. I'm selling it for what I paid, £2000. Here's Joe's original fir sale thread from July last year: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/x-2-900-ss.92245/ Please note, the original cans are now fitted. Any questions, please ask. Cheers, Lee.
looking at the competition available currently, that is a kind and generous pricing Lee, can't see it hanging around for long.
The Q plate will deter buyers, although needlessly so. If I can get back what I paid, I'll be happy, but regretful I'm sure. It really is a great bike, with a chunk of money having been spent on it a few months before I bought it.
same old story, if I hadn't experienced many of these already then I would have got this bought by now.
Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but why does a bike that has been stolen/recovered have to have a Q-plate?
The original thread mentions it has a DVLA given VIN number, suggesting the old one was removed. If so it can be a right battle to prove the bike is the same one that had the original registration number, as in reality it could be any frame, or even engine, with the number removed, and it's still possible the original Bike/Frame/Engine could pop out of the woodwork. So DVLA will not let you use the original Reg No. Trying to get an age related plate is also difficult as the DVLA can't be bothered to go the extra mile to help.
Ah, thanks for the explanation. Is the frame number not stamped onto the frame in the head-stock (?) - pretty sure it is on my 851 SP3, so it might be recoverable.
All I should point out that my explanation in response to AndrewS's question doesn't change that I believe this bike is seriously good value for money if you want a 900SS to ride and enjoy. It's a useable bike that somebody will really have a lot of fun with.
Nasher is spot-on. As I've discovered, this bike is an affordable way to experience owning and riding a two-valve, air-cooled, v-twin Ducati. I haven't seen a cheaper way of buying a 900SS that is as useable as this bike. The fresh tyres alone represent over 10% of my asking price. If you're looking for a concourse machine, with no quirks (I'm referring to the Q plate) this isn't the bike for you. But I very much doubt you'll find one for £2000. @bradders - I insured it through: www.principalinsurance.co.uk I have a multibike policy with Bikesure, but they wouldn't add it on because of the Q plate. So I set up a brand new policy, meaning zero NCB, with Principal at a cost of around £200, fully comp. To be honest, I don't really want to sell it. But space is an issue, and I'm not parting with my V4, my all-year-round Street Triple R or my '92 FireBlade I've owned now for 19 years. My (current!) plan is to go back to three bikes, perhaps moving the Triumph on for a later Street Triple RS.
If only I wouldn’t have to get upset everyday with the customs agents, inspection centers, get ripped off in taxes to be paid, Ducati not supplying the right documents, and 1000 other issues when importing a bike to Spain, post brexit, I would buy her back and let her sit in my garage until I can register it, but I am already having a nightmare with my 851. I miss her everyday! For whoever is thinking to buy this bike, know it’s been loved and no expenses spared. Secure a great deal on a young engine, and one day find a frame and move everything over if the Q plate is what bothers you. Celebrate with a glass of Chianti the amazing deal you secured
Deposit received. Mods: to avoid tempting fate on both the buyer's and my part, I'll ask for the thread to be closed once the bike has been collected. Thanks.
