No 'neutral' light, so new dash!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Biot, Aug 1, 2013.

  1. My neutral light has gone on holiday. It went awol on way up to Oulton Park a few days ago. Bike is now 4 months passed it's 2 year warranty period. If a new dash is needed is this something that under the Sale of Goods Act I can get done FOC as reasonably, a part such as this should last more than 28 months? 11 plate, FDSH, garaged.
    Thanks. :upyeah:

  2. Known and well documented failure on a bike with full history. At the very least I'd expect a healthy contribution.

  3. I would be interested to know how you get on with the Sale of Goods Act, which doesn't specify a time period. I see no reason why it shouldn't apply to bikes and cars but there doesn't seem to be a history of it being used in this area. Opinions anyone ???

  4. As Doodle has indicated, this is a very well known problem and I just managed to get mine dealt with about 4 weeks prior to the 2nd anniversary. As Ducati absolutely appreciate this is a task simply waiting to be done at some point, so they should make, at the very least, a serious contribution to your pain!!:frown:

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
    :upyeah:

  5. There must be someone that can repair and solve the water ingress problem. Modern electronics should be more reliable. When it rains my bike creates random numbers in the gear selector and the neutral light comes on randomly when in gear. This means that it will start with the side stand down, or not. It also surges forward when the neutral light comes on, which is quite worrying when following traffic or negotiating tight bends.
Waiting to see what my dealer says

  6. I had the authorisation for a new set of clocks for the best part of 3 years, but refused to allow the work to be done until I hit a major service because they can't sort out the mileage/service indicator. Just had them changed now.

  7. How I miss the days when you could "just" change the bulb... :S

  8. Scorpio Electronics would probably fix it for you ....they are uk based

  9. Will post back when I've had the news from my local dealer. I seem to remember years ago a case where a washing machine failed completely shortly after it's warranty period had expired, but the person won their case for a new part/new machine as the w.machine should have lasted a reasonable time without defect. The 'reasonable time' bit is vague but 3 months past it's 2 year warranty is in my opinion still a reasonable time to expect the bike and it's systems to work properly. if they had failed after 5 years then maybe I'd have to pay!

  10. Under consumer law, 6 years is the expected life of a product. You can quote the Sale of Goods act at them and they will have to cover it.
BTW, my clocks have failed and I have a new set waiting for me at Riders Cardiff.

  11. The failiure of these clocks is like death itself, it's going to come, your just never sure when!

  12. As Biot says I think it is a 'reasonable time' and 'up to' 6 years, it all depends upon the product. Would any lawyers like to comment ?

  13. Update: picked bike up from dealers this morning. They've ordered new clocks and a new rear calliper for my Mutley plus updated the electronic steering lock (broken on mine) software; version 50 now!. So now it doesn't rely on the l/h & r/h claws to initialise the locking process. You just have to make sure the bars are either full lock left or right.
It's just a shame they can't put my old mileage on to the new clocks; mines an 11 plate.

  14. Scorpion electronics can alter clocks to show old mileage, they quoted me £100

  15. Do you have an URL for them please?

  16. Interesting...although I can't say that I'm not enjoying the fact that the clocks show 36 miles again.

  17. Fucking smartarse. I was unable to find them as the original poster typed SCORPION.
