V4 Pikes Peak Satnav Options

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by SteveE, Feb 10, 2023.

  1. Apologies if this is a repeat from somewhere in the 94 page long V4 Pikes Peak thread. I’m getting my V4 Pikes Peak very soon and wondered what my best Satnav option is. I’ve got a BMW Nav VI (Garmin) and wondered 1) if anyone has a photo of similar mounted on a Pikes Peak and how pleased they are with the mounting (and where I would get a mount from) ..or 2) is it now time to think about stopping messing up the look of the cockpit and mount an iPhone (pictures of how it looks also welcome).

  2. Doesn’t the V4 PP come with the Sygic sat nav on the dash, or is it really that useless nobody uses the Ducati Connect app ?

  3. Ducati offer a high mount for an arm and a leg but there may well be by now an aftermarket offering. IMO, a dedicated sat nav is the way to go, the Ducati App (Sygic) mirroring your phone is challenging and does not get a good review in the UK. Andy

  4. Garmin XT with a Iconic satnav mount is what most go for, There is also the evotec mount which is cheaper. I went for the Iconic mount and it looks like its part of the bike. The Garmin XT is terrific . Lots of youtube videos you can see

  6. @SteveE
If you already have a BMW Nav VI (Garmin) and the cradle that goes with it, then that's great. All you need is a mounting bracket. Lots of options for those. That's an expensive GPS. and you can certainly want to use it.
If you don't however, No need to spend a ton of cash. Any Garmin Nuvi will do. Everyone probably has one somewhere in a box. They're a dime a dozen to buy. Plus the Ram Mounts are $15.

  7. That’s exactly what I’ve got on mine

  8. That long wire looks nice and safe!

  9. Handlebar mount gives zero vibration and puts the ZUMO in easy reach

  10. But you have to look down when you want to check the Sat Nav… and doesn’t work with a tank bag.

Above the clocks it’s in your eyeline and I found the Evotech mount to be fine.

  11. Tried it and it is a distraction, but definitely a neat spot!

Pl;us, as said, a pain for tank bag use.

  12. I’ve tried it up higher but it’s so in line of sight it becomes a distraction in itself, and it does vibrate.
In fact in a car it would be illegal to put it up high as it would obstruct the view of the road.
Rather flick my eyes down for a second, but surely like me you have the directions Bluetoothed into your ear ?

I Never use tank bags, awful ugly things that totally destroy the beautiful lines of the bike. :bomb:

  13. i had not wired it in yet

  14. For high mounts look at Iconic. You can then get a Garmin/TomTom/phone mount adaptor for it. Way cheaper than the Ducati one, better made, and fits in the same way.

  15. Has anyone used the iconic mount on a V4S/Pikes Peak for a Garmin 590/595? I think the older Garmin will be heavier than the XT. Was it stable, no vibration? TIA.
