Mine was the Silver Mk2 2.8i GLS version, quite rare.....It had the black boot spoiler, silver alloys instead of white and with the spotlights...1978 reg, I think...............I was second owner..............if you look at a pic of the Sweeney one, mine looked exactly the same. Essex Plod had at least two of them.............which is why I had so much fun with it..... AL
My first car was a chocolate brown TR7 which had more filler than metal into near side wing, no hand brake worth talking about. It lasted about a year until I was rear ended and one of the trailing arms snapped off due to the pickup point on the chassis being more rust than metal
My first decent car, Chevette rally car I used for the Motoring New night championship in the late eighties, 2.1 Ford Pint enginer 165bhp at back wheels (sounds tame now against latest superbikes) Manta back axle. Loved that car, slidewards at the slight provocation but great to drive .. loved it
1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500 back in 1981, bought a convertible as only had bikes before and still wanted that exposed feeling.
want the exposed feeling. just get your windows tinted and drive around with ya knob out...its very liberating. .. ..oooh sorry not that sort of exposed I hear you muse...
Mine was one of the last, they were sold to Peugeot in the early 80's with production moving to France soon after. As an illustration as to how bad the British motor industry was, quality improved significantly when the French started building them. Production fizzled out about 1985. In many ways moving production to France was 'coming home' in many ways - the engine in the Solara and Alpine was an old Simca unit, and the talbot Samba was a re badged Peugeot 104
Renault 5 gt turbo. Bought in '97 scrapped in 2003. All the mechanics were sound, body wasn't. So wish I'd kept it now they're fetching good money.
First car was an MG Metro (1984 A I think), sold it for a Seirra with a huge tail on the back, what a friggin chav I was then Had a renault 5 turbo too Matt, great car and loved it, sold it because of a girl I was crazy about at the time.....arsehole!
Morris Marina 1.3 4-doors PILE OF SHITE. It taught me a great deal about spannering and bodging. In 18 months I had to replace the Engine&gearbox, rear axle, petrol tank, front wings, and various other bits. I was lucky enough to live less than a mile from the local scrapyard, and there were LOTS of Marinas in there. Wet carpets in winter cos the floor was rotten, but all my mates cars seemed to have the same problem. When the sills rotted, I filled them with chicken wire and P38. Pleased to see the back of it when it was replaced with a 1.2 Opel Kadett Hatchback which lasted 4 years and was a great little car, and began a spell of German and Jap car ownership until I started buying Ducatis which forced the budget down to a sucession of Renaults, but I have managed to crawl 1 rung back up the ladder with a Ford now.
A vauxhall cavalier 1.6 gls, that had been written off, paid £900 to an insurance company for it, got it fixed up for next to nothing. (apprentice at a vauxhall main dealer) had it 2 years and sold it for £2200.00 Even remember the Reg. No. B 545 UFR
I rememer the old shove'its well. I spannered on a lot of them during my apprenticeship, my favorite was the Black Witch model. Always thought they where cool.
Your poor bastard  I learnt to drive in a Metro. Second worst car on the road behind the Volvo 340
