fitted the gilles gear and brake levers to my bike as I have never been happy with the gear selector, hit so many false neutrals between 4 and 5 and got to a point where my big toe was blistering as I was forcing it so hard but the new gilles levers has made such a difference i feel I've got my mojo back with the bike. Absolutely love them and again the back brake is so much more usable View attachment 214107
So how have they made 'such a difference', when the attachment mechanisms are precisely the same, i.e. original? Do they have a slightly longer throw/movement with less input or what? I agree they do look better, however, other than that!
The gear lever has two positions, one faster (shorter) than the other. I had them on my 1200 and the gear change was noticeably better. I've also got them on my 1260 and whilst an improvement on standard not as much as the 1200. You also get to lose that rubber that lasts approximately 15 seconds.
Looking at the pic, it seems that gear lever for 1260 has 3 positions. Could you measure the distances between these 3 attachment points and the center of the lever mounting bolt? Thanks!
Sorry, I thought you have the lever on 1260 now. Anyway, here's another picture I could find. Seems to be at least 2 positions to attach QS to the lever. I wonder, how these positions compare to the OEM lever.
The gear lever side has much more adjustment and you can set it so the lever travel is much less to engage the gears. The brake again has adjustment and can be set for a more individual preference
That's exactly what I'm looking for. But it depends on the difference in distance between levers mountimg bolt and gear shifting arm connecting bolt. If someone has Gilles levers on 1260, could you please measure it?
Can't figure my new phone out but got it off ebay from Calsports Item # 184364864025 Only 1 left and down to £138 for dvt
I have, you've got me thinking now! I don't think mine has three options for the actual lever peg. but I'll check tonight. Also, I think you're correct in that the linkage has three options, but my understanding is that the fitment as shown in the picture (which is how I've go tmine set up) will result in the 'quickest' shift - i.e. less travel to engage the next gear.
Does having the lever set to quicker shift mean that you need to apply a higher foot pressure to change?
That also concerns me. In theory it does. Multi is already the stiffest gear shifting bike I ever owned, especially 2nd to 1st. Sometimes, I have to tap really hard to make it shift. And the bike has 20,000 km on it already, so it should be pretty much broken in...
Not in my experience, can't say my size 11s noticed any difference. Dead easy and the fitting instructions are fairly straight forward. Like Evotech, Gilles stuff is really good quality.
Fitted these to my 1200dvt and they are superb. Beautifully machined and made gear change so much more positive. Also virtually eliminated the false neutrals I was getting. Neutral seems easier to find also. Back brake seems more Effective too but this might just be me. Highly recommended.
