Oh NO. Peoples please watch out. My modififed Ohlins is now showing "Error DES Rear Rebound ". Note it also shows this when the Suspension is disconnected. When changing pre-load settings I hear a whir, but not the rebound...I think my initial concerns on plastic gears may have come true. 2000 hard miles on the new Ohlins ECU. Disconnected battery and tried to cycle from one setting to another, same error.
Switching back to the old ECU (cycling the battery ON / OFF) has the same fault. "DES Rear Rebound Error".
May not necessarily be the new ECU that causes that, it could be a problem with electronic suspension cylinders iitself. The only way you'll find out is to get a dealer to plug the diagnostics in and check the exact issue.
Samieb, I know it's not the ECU; never thought it was. I've swapped over the plugs for Rebound and Compression and the fault follows the servo, so I can safely assume that the shock is at fault. My concern is as a very early adopter of the new Ohlins semi-active ECU I may have worn out the servo or associate components in the shock absorber. Hence the fault. Just over 2000 miles.
That's crap news. I hope for your sake that Ohlins do any repair work under warranty otherwise it's either a big repair bill or a legal battle to get it sorted.
That's a bummer but hopefully just one of those coincidences i.e. shock components were going to fail regardless of the new SCU (and Ohlins would have us believe the shock was designed/built with semi-active suspension control in mind [copy post below;-]) Fingers crossed Ducati will do the right thing by you (you're warranty expired?) - had full rear suspension inc ECU replaced FOC (and with no labour charge also after emailing DUK;-) following DES Pre-Load Errors......two weeks outside Warranty! Thanks again for that SCO Thanks for your comments above Robin (LongWayHome) - that all makes sense, thought that likely to be the case but me being me always looking for a quicker/easier way to do things (lazy! lol) I sent a couple of emails to Ohlins and Ohlins USA......Ohlins.se reply: I've asked if Laszlo might like to expand on that a bit for me! Leaving fitting mine for a week or so.....I have full new suspension inc ECU on the rear and a brand new set of forks! - want to get everything 'bedded in'/see all is problem free before the upgrade. No need to wait on my say so though........far more knowledgeable/better informed guys have gone for it already and all reports/reviews I've read have been positive, hence I've followed suit ;-) More comments reviews: Ohlins "Mechatronic" SCU and a mega thread on the ducati.ms forums: Ohlins Suspension Control Unit (SCU) coming - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum
Ok, I've bitten the bullet and purchased the zero miles, but 2nd hand Ohlins TTX unit off fleabay. I don't want to be without the bike for another two or three weeks. I'll get mine investigated and repaired. I'll then sell on here or back on fleabay.
oh and another question, will you be sending your old shock to ohlins or a.n.other ? (would be good to find out if they are repairable and how much) bugs (covering all the bases)
As my bike is also out of warranty I think I will wait a while to see if anybody else has problems after putting a few miles on with the new SCU What is your gut reaction AirCon, coincedence or failure due to suspension not being able to cope ?? gonna be very difficult to prove unless others start having same error and then where would you stand on getting ducati to fix it if your bike has no warranty
Rear shock and/or ECU failures have not been that uncommon........it was this fact I guess that made a 'goodwill' replacement shock (full rear suspension unit) and ECU pretty easy for me to obtain - obviously dependent on mileage and condition of the bike in question ;-) AirCon.....did you not pursue replacement outside warranty as a goodwill gesture?!
Your right Andy, most times in the past it was the SCU but occasionally the shock , can't blame this failure on the new SCU.
He did me a good deal at £400 including shipping. It looks like its never been on a bike, not a single mark on it.
As already mentioned I was a very early adopter of the new SCU. I really hope with all my heart that this is just a very bad dose of luck for me and that the gears within the TTX were designed with on the fly mirco adjustments in mind. As indicated on other forums. If not I'll be the OP on a very very long angry thread.
I hear what you are saying Andy. I'm the 2nd owner of this 38 month old, 24500 mile bike. It's very clean, thanks to the previous owner, any marks and dirt are down to me. Being a time poor, cash rich (or was until this recently) type of guy I prefer the direct approach of getting it fixed as quickly as possible. The troubles started after it went on the dyno. Lots of thrashing around and bouncing. The front n/s connector on the forks came apart on the ride home and the first time I ever saw the fault on the rear also appeared. However the next time I rode the bike the fault disappeared. I'm going to speak to Kevin at FTR to see if they can repair the old faulty shock. And of course I will keep all informed of the outcome.
It won't look good for Ohlins as I understand that this new unit is theirs (not aftermarket)? Still, Ducati will be off the hook once the 2 or 3 year warranty is up, I guess?
Seriously guys what is wrong with properly fettled normal suspension? electronic suspension at this stage in the game seems like an expensive mistake, so glad I just took the ABS model and saved £4000. I hope you get it sorted.
