Toyota Iq - Possible Clutch Replacement Looking For Advice...

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by comfysofa, Jan 6, 2023.

  1. Ok - gonna tackle it again later on...(ill try the ptfe tape option) to start with....the reason i asked about the shared system was that i cant find anything on a separate res for the clutch....

The reservoir is definatley full! made sure of that first of all...

Ill report back later on....got chores to do today...gonna try and make a start on the wiring on the 400/4..

Bleeding the clutch on the IQ is a two man job and the second man...my middle son....will not surface from his pit until at least 3pm today... :)

  2. Bit of a long one....but, i got there in the end....just in case anyone else gets the issue...(with whatever car they have)

So, last wednesday took the plunge and got stuck into the clutch replacement....followed the video and 12 hours later it was done....id say 3 hours of that was stuck/rusted bolts....my impact driver not having the legs (3ft breaker bar did it in the end) - after all of that the problem still wasnt fixed, but what was fixed was when i bled the system i didnt have all the air bubbles in there, so that was sorted....but i will say the clutch was almost out anyway so despite the long day it was worth it in the end. One of the things the garage told me when they tried to bleed the system was they clamped a soft hose under the car and the clutch was solid (so they say) but the thing that finally fixed it was a whole master cylinder assembly...i just replaced the centre section with a new plunger. Finally just been out for a test drive and ive gotta be honest its probably a bit smoother than before and gear change feels a bit softer....anyway - all done....comically it was at this point i thought...we'll it fucking better all go back together now...!

  3. I do have one final question (if someone can view the video) - at 1hr 08mins he squirts something into the engine...clear fluid - im guessing some sort of transmission fluid?...can someone help/advise?

  4. Its the gear box he's filling up mate, roughly 2 litres of transmission oil

  5. Really.... He did a couple of squirts? I dropped the engine oil at the start but refilled that? And just to add through the whole strip down no additional oil has come out.... Just the initial engine oil...
