Took the lads moped out as he said it wouldn’t tick over once warm and running rough as a rough thing. Got it warmed up and nothing to report wrong with it, cleaned it and then set about fixing the rear indicators which on the left were missing and on the right not working. Replaced the missing indicator from the spares bike and fixed the none working right side, all good to go.
Got the L/H auxiliary switch (up & down) jobby working again, chopped up and stuck down a decent enough tank pad and painted the front shock mount black.
...Small??!! you know that procedure during a starter sprag change where you just use a stout pin punch to lightly tap round the "clamping plate" so you can extract it from the flywheel and get at the actual sprag assy? well, this one just would not move, and was running out of ideas having no specialist equipment. Around an hour later it suddenly decided to move but not easily. I bent two punches and had sparks flying at times not to mention a lucky miss with some shrapnel that either bounced off the eyeball or only struck the eyelid (stupid Chris, not wearing goggles). A really well-earnt cup of Tea. - got so engrossed in it that I even missed the end of an important auction where I stood to lose a fortune.
Did some very small maintenance for the first time this year. I had bought a NOCO 2x2 charger last year as I was fed up with Optimates frying batteries. Of course, different connectors so swapped a couple over to NOCO type. I couldn’t be arsed to take the million tiny screws out of the tank on my M1100 to access the battery under the tank so I cut n’shut the NOCO connector onto the existing Optimate fly lead. Phew, that’s enough for one day, don’t get too giddy.
Having sorted the fuel consumption woes on my 916 went for a 50 mile blast round the wolds. The next thing to sort is the temp guage. It hardly registered a temp. (Its got all new sensors and thermostat and I know its hotter than the guage says and if it was running as cold as the reading the fuel consumption would be very poor and it aint) I have another temp guage with a cracked glass so today I have got the bezel off and the glass removed. I'm waiting for some bits to arrive before I try and put it together. If it works I will do a how to thread if not you will nothing about it
Fitted wheels and shiny bits... the rear wheel always worries me as the tolerances are only a few MM.
Bit the bullet and fitted the decal I’ve been putting off for weeks, as I’m pretty useless at this sort of thing! Turned out well.
lazy effort on sprag clutch yesterday, i used to get excited about putting it all back together. might do a bit later on this afternoon.
Hi Chris, cool - low to mid twenties, and for the last week dry and no rain forecast for a while. Ideal weather for a liesurely ride out.
My MOT ran out last October I wasn’t aware of it until I came to tax it, which came as a reminder through the post. Didn’t realise DVLA sent out MOT reminders also.
You have been able to request an MOT reminder for a number of years now, i've taken full advantage as becoming so forgetful - i've also had several occasions where MOT has lapsed for as long as 6 months without being aware. Maybe they are making this standard procedure now.
As I was taking my bikes there as a contributor, I had the privilege to spend the afternoon and evening helping set up the “Tamburini” stand for this year’s Motorcycle show in Lyon. https://www.salondu2roues.com/ 40 Tamburinis are gathered there in two different stands by Thibault Dorel (a.k.a Tibomoto). You can look him up on FB. He is soon to open a small museum specifically dedicated to the 916, in Sarras, near Valence, in Ardèche, France. A nice stop on your way down to Italy. One exception to this display is a bike that was not designed by Tamburini and his team, but by Pierre Terblanche…
Nice. When you go back there, please can you swap the stands, so that all the bikes on the left are on black stands and all the ones on the right, on red. My OCD has gone into overdrive looking at that picture.
