1200 Winterizing Tip For Lithium Battery Monsters

  1. We all know the benefit that a lithium batteries will keep a charge for months if not longer.
That of course is in the absence of parasitic draw.
Charging (tendering) your LI battery in freezing temperature is not recommended.
Do you dread dropping and disconnecting the battery which on a Monster is a chore?
Good news! You don't have to.
Remove the plastic cover that's over the battery (two 4mm hex bolts) and disconnect the master plug.
That's it. No more parasitic draw.

Then perform your normal winterizing / storage to-do list if you haven't already done so.

  2. I have always been amazed that my 1200S actually starts and without any seeming difficulty when I eventually get to visit it.

I have been in the UAE for two years and have seen the thing only three times during that period however it just starts no problem. I suspect that the parasitic drain incurred by the factory immobiliser is offset by the fact that it goes into sleep mode.

I have to say I was dreading having to replace the battery on my return but fingers crossed I won't need to.:upyeah:

  3. Interesting theory.

  4. I just took both bikes out of hibernation this weekend. Reconnected the master plug on the Monster (see post #1 above) and it fired-up instantly. Connected the neg pole on the Multi's LI battery and it fired-up instantly. Changed the oil on both and ready to ride.
