It's been in a hedge on the way to the gym for over a week. No way it's been ridden there, tyres were flat, chain off and seized solid. Dumped for sure! Apart from left outside water damage, it's in good nick. Decent spec.... Little project.
Fresh first thing but a nice ride this morning. 40 miles which is a lot for me and don't feel completely wasted, well happy.
Well I am just back from my first cycling holiday in the stunning Costa Rica, 2 weeks of 40C+ temps, too hot by far but you do get used to it. From sea level up to around 7000ft elevation over the course of the 12 days cycling. Cracking group of people and team. We cycled just under 300 miles in the 12 days, which on paper doesn't sound too difficult, but a combination of the elevation, temperature and humidity really takes its toll on the body, two people collapsed on the first day due to the heat and the climbs, the main group leader suffered heat stroke on day 3 and spent a night in hospital (didn't ride for a further 2 days) and several others spent a few days missing stages and just rode on the bus. It was pretty much a full on trip, usually on the road for 7am and at our next hotel by 5pm, but there was plenty of stuff to see - national parks, swimming in the pacific, boat rides, sleeping in eco lodged in the rainforest, volcanic hot spa, hiking, chilling by the pool, getting smashed in Puerto Viejo to name a few. We're already looking at Vietnam in December now as many of the group we were with recommended this trip also.
Managed to escape the matrix for a bit today. 35 miles. Got a bit colder and the wind picked up in the afternoon. Still good to get out.
Should be pretty straight forward with the correct bleed kit. I mean come on way easier than a Ducati rear brake.
Bleed was ok. Had stuck pistons, the whole alignment thing was new to me as well, alignment not required on cars or bikes.
not a big fan of hydraulic disc brakes on a bicycle but have got to appreciate a surprisingly noticeable difference between 160 mm and 180 mm dia discs particularly on the front. (160 on skip bike).
A cautionary tale from the bikeshed. Before you go pulling out BBs, stripping cassettes, extracting and re greasing wheel spindles, while looking for that annoying squeak...Check for loose spokes....
had a spoke ping on a Carrera Kraken rear. The std tyre only just cleared the lower wheel mount arm as it was, so spent a good half hour kicking the wheel rim "straight" before I could get home. Only 10 miles but would have been a pain. I shaved the rubber side-knobblies off the tyre after that in prep for the next time.
