749 749/999 Exhausts/decat Front Pipes

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Nasher, Feb 28, 2023.

  1. Can somebody confirm my understanding, or say otherwise, that all parts of the exhaust system are the same on the 749 and 999?

On my 999 I put a Decat front pipe on when I fitted the Racefit end can, and left it there when I put the standard can back on. It's still there and doesn't appear to cause any issues.

Whilst looking for something else in my container over the weekend I found the std pipe I took off the bike, and also another front pipe that I believed was a std one, but have now realised it's another decat pipe.
It's a nice surprise as I'll put it up for sale.
It has 749 written on it in marker pen, but I think the 999 pipe is exactly the same.

Also, so I can try to identify it properly, what are the sources of the decat pipes?
I know they are not all Termi ones, so what did Ducati fit them to as standard?

  2. Deep sump and non-deep are different

  3. Ah yes, well spotted.
I think it's the same shape as the Std one I took off my Deep sump 999, but will have to double check that.

Interested to know what they were fitted to by Ducati, as I'm sure it's not a Termi one.

  4. Using this thread I believe I've identified it as being for a deep Sump early Grey swingarm bike:
    https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/ducati-999s-2003-2004-horizontal-de-cat-link-pipe.81902/

It seems mad that an early deep sump version is different to a later Deep Sump version, but the images from @TheJackal and @mrfurry prove it.

I've taken some images of it now:

it appears to match the one in the other thread that is considered to be 2003 deep sump.

  5. Just need to work out what it's worth now.

  6. different swing arms

  7. And it's worth fack all.

  8. Can you drop a deep sump pipe on a non deep sump? I need a decat.

  9. I got my local welder to just cut it out for £10.

  10. I don't see why not, but I'm not an expert.
I do know it definitely wouldn't work the other way round.
(Non-deep sump pipe on deep sump engine, not trying to use the pipe back to front:D)

  11. Stock exhausts are the same for both swingarms, only the engine type matters.

    No.

  12. Thanks jusutus, so you are saying that for a stock 'with Cat' pipe only the Sump matters, and that all 749 and 999 pipes regardless of the Swingarm type are the same for a Deep Sump engine, and I assume the same applies to Flat Sump Engines.

It's clear from the TheJackal and mrfurry images that the De-cat pipes for Deep sump engines are different depending on the Swingarm type.

  13. Yes.
