Ducati Service Intervals

  1. Hey guys.

Just a quick one, I purchased my 1000ss from Riders (A Ducati Dealership) Just over Two years ago, they did a FULL BELT SERVICE (meaning all the belts were changed for new and and the fluids were changed) i assumed? now they are telling me that even though in that 2 years my bike has only done 1400 Miles (due to broken leg couldn't ride it) that it needs another FULL BELT SERVICE at a cost of 700 Quid?

Is this correct????? seems like a bit of a Con :-(

  2. In theory yes, belts every 2 years and smaller service the year inbetween....

  3. Do the belts and an oil change yourself............save yourself a fortune.....

  4. Or break your leg again so that you don't have to ride it again, thereby saving more on wear and tear :upyeah:

  5. Well was told it an "Engine Out" for belts change?

  6. LOL. One hour Max at home. Takes longer to order the correct belts on line

  7. Who the F told you that?................I hope it wasn't a Ducati dealer, because if it was I would name the buggers if I were you....

    AL

  8. Engine out for valve timming?? I thought belts were every 3 years, must be wrong. Belts are really easy to do, and you don't need the engine out for that, get yours self a Haynes and away you go.

  9. You are being had over at £700. £150 and an afternoon of you're time and its done

  10. I would take a risk and stretch it another year, the belts are not going to snap after 1400 miles

  11. yeah I thought so guys, 1400 miles and 700 for belt service is a bit harsh lol, by he way its Riders who told me this! named and shamed! nice bunch of guys but fxk me 700 quid? and within 1400? nah aint having that lol

  12. I had never owned a Ducati until this one, but plenty of other bikes that I had worked on.

When I did my belts I was very careful and marked things and counted teeth; plus took photos just to make sure I got it right..........I was also nursing a hand injury, so I expected to be slower.......

..............took me two hours max..............I guess when I do it again, maybe 1.5 hours.

    Genuine belts cost me £38.

  13. I've done 3 belt changes on my '93 SS.

It's an absolute doddle. You can check the timing is still OK by turning the engine over a few times and belt tension is a piece of piss to check with a 5mm allen key, even my Granny could do it and she died in 1981!

  14. This is the basic service regime. Belts etc followed by minor service, followed by belts etc. basically belts every 2 years. If you DIY or use dealer is your choice, but, Ducati recommend belts every 2 years.

  15. I go 3 years every time on both bikes! still keeps me under the 1200k miles though.

  16. By hand, that is.............

  17. Very valid point :upyeah:

I omitted to include that. Of course, it's easier if you remove the spark plugs first

  18. So is this the normal cost then from a main Ducati dealer? would like to keep up the service record if poss? and are there any in Cornwall area? xxx

  19. If you did the belt swap yourself and kept a record of the date and mileage plus all invoices for parts bought, this would be an equally good service record.
