916 Side Stand Part Number Help

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Davyd, Mar 23, 2023.

  1. So can any of you guys help identify this side stand. It’s part number 556.3.042.1A.
I bought it as it was described as being a genuine 1098 item. Now I’ve fitted it and it helps with the lean but the actual leg is the same length as my 916. 33C82459-4DDA-4088-836C-3483285DB4E4.jpeg 88F4C90F-8F66-4D32-B42E-674602DF7119.jpeg 42CBB0F6-A9B1-4A5E-AB10-A6E95A498723.jpeg 0AC129F5-6469-4EE5-AF00-DE3958370741.jpeg

  2. That appears to be a 748/9*6 type alloy stand. 1098 stand is steel, mine is black/dark grey colour.
Perhaps see if it is magnetic, if not, probably aluminum alloy.

  3. It looks like the later 748/996 non suicide stand.

  4. It is alloy but looking at some pics of 1098 bikes there are some with alloy and some with steel which are black. That’s why I think if someone could confirm with the part number it will clear it up

  5. My spare 1098R side stand p/n is 556.3.042.2A so I‘d suggest the likelihood is, yes, it’s from a 1098. Andy

  7. Ooo err missus. Just checked with the Oracle and turns out my side stand is for a Paul Smart. Absolutely no idea how that got in my parts box. @Davyd, my alologies for potentially misleading you. Found my 02MY 748R side stand and that is p/n 556.1.013.2A which is probably not any better for sorting it out. Andy

  8. That part number doesn't show on the parts fiche. might be a sub assembly reference for instance. I have a 748 in the shop but that's a different number.
It doesn't look like a 1098 stand. The foot is too small.

  9. The stand for my 998 has these part numbers maybe they might help E8653A6C-44EF-4D5C-A5B6-5811B8CF7BD8.jpeg

  10. Pete That’s the same number as android posted for his 748R Would it make any difference that the one I got came from Italy?

  11. Those part numbers are the manufacturers numbers as they get most stuff from Italy. Sorry i cut that bit off the bottom of the picture. I’ve had quite a few bits for my Matrix including green parts, so I’m guessing their part numbers are pretty accurate

  12. I have a 1098 side stand ref. 556.3.042.2A on my 916. It is about 1 inch longer and the foot is 1/2 inch wider than the OEM 916 stand.

  13. I think I can safely say what I bought is not what it was described as.

  14. That sounds like a good idea for my 998, the foot being wider definitely sounds positive

  15. The following stand part numbers are examples taken from the USA Ducati dealer website link below:
    556.1.046.1A - 1098 - Base, S & S Tricolore - MY:2007.
    556.1.046.1A - 1098 - Base, S & S Tricolore - MY:2008 .
    556.1.046.2AB - 1098R - MY:2008.
    556.1.046.2AB - 1098R Bayliss - MY:2008.
    556.1.046.2AB (Black) - 1198 - Base & S - MY:2009.
    556.1.046.2A - 848 - MY:2009.
    556.1.046.2AB (Black) - 1198 - Base & S - MY:2010.
    556.1.046.2A - 1198S & R Corse - MY:2010.
    https://www.ducatiomaha.com/pages/ducati-oem-parts .

The links below from the "bike-parts-ducati" website (In Moto?) appear to suggest that the 556.1.046.1A stand was superseded by 556.1.046.2AB, and is suitable for a number of models:
    https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/ducati-motorcycle/Superbike .
    https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/ducati-motorcycle/Superbike/2007/1098/1098/STAND/137/31/0/137 .
    https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/ducati-motorcycle/assignment_spare_parts/55610462AB .
    https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/ducati-motorcycle/price .

This link confirms what is stated in post # 8, that the stand with part number: 556.3.042.1A is fitted to :
    the Sport1000 and Paul Smart 1000LE - MY: 2006.
    https://issuu.com/ducatiomaha/docs/smart1000le_usa_06_ed_01?e=1222863/10926873 .

However, this link to a thread on here suggests that stand with part number: 556.3.042.2A , as referred to in post # 14, is a 1098 stand and will fit a number of earlier models:
    https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/1098-side-stand-on-a-996.57794/ .

I don't think that this resolves the uncertainty relating to OEM Ducati side stands fitted to various models over time, but I hope it contributes to the discussion.

I suggest that a good indicator is where a post shows that a specific stand has been successfully fitted to a particular model/year bike, and that it provides the desired improvement.

    Hope it helps.

    Tom.

  16. Just checking this out. It looks like the stand number is different. So back to the drawing board as I still don’t know exactly which bike 556.3.042.1A actually belongs to.

  17. Hi,

Did we ever get to the bottom of this part number (556.3.042.2A)? I have the same side stand and it was sold as from a 1098 but I can't locate any model that uses this number.

    search yielded this: https://www.ducatiomaha.com/search?q=55630422A
