I've had KTM Adventures for the past 8 years, starting with the 950 and had my 990 for the past 4. Been a fantastic bike, totally reliable, spec'd up just how I like it.... But the new Multi is just too tempting!! So, I'm now in the market for a slightly used very low mileage Multi S. Must be the S or a Pikes Peak, under 5k miles, prefer the Sport but a touring would be considered, prefer red. Cash waiting, or have my immaculate 990Adv if anyone's interested... Im fed up waiting for KTM to launch the replacement Adv, and the Multi ticks all the boxes! Will just need to add Touratech rack for my panniers, a higher seat and bar risers for my lanky frame! Cheers, Dan [email protected]
Hi Dan, I had a run out on a demo SMT last month and it was a nice bike, But the Multi is just too good i am afraid and it couldnt compare.
I have taken a multi out and was impressed. It wasn't as comfortable as my ADV, but only because of the mods that I've made on my bike that suit me. For instance, The leg position on the multi was too sporty for my liking. I'm hoping that with addition of a higher seat, will cure this. Are the pegs adjustable?
If you're after rock solid reliability stay with a Katoom, loved mine never missed a beat but my multi has had numerous recalls and warranty work to date, fingers crossed its been fine this year but it's only been out 4 times
Hi Dan I had a 950 Adventure before my Multi and did over 20,000 miles on it, great bike but the Multi beats it everywhere by a long way with the exception of off road, the Multi is horrible off road with the 17 inch front wheel and big fat tyres. I wouldn't dream of taking the Multi through some of the off road that the KTM went through. I'm 6'3" and find the Multi comfortable enough for 1000 miles in a day and as for the engine yee ha. You'll love it. I also considered and rode a 990SMT, bloody good fun, far better road bike than the Adventure, but still prefer the Multi
A higher seat? You'll need bloody long legs!! Pegs not adjustable but there are adjustable after market ones....at a price...
Hi DAn - you won't regret it. I've had a 950, 990 adventure. 950 and 990 SM. The ducati beats it hands down - you won't regret your choice... I think you will get use to the leg position, took me a while but you do get used to it and find its slighty sporting upright if that makes sense. The bars are a nice width and you can really hussle on the bike. I like KTM and reckon I'll be back to them at some point but they have to come out with significant upgrades to tempt me off the multistroodle.
Thanks to all for their responses, especially those with previous KTM history! Good to see that no one has regretted their decision! Just got to wait for the right bike to come along....
I know that you wanted a low mileage model and so do most. The result is that higher mileage (13000!!!) bikes can be got at attractive prices. That sort of mileage is nothing to the Ducati engine so, providing the cycle parts are well kept, you could save five grand on such a bike compared with new. 5K gets you a lot of extras or pays for a lot of exotic rides. A further benefit of such a bike is that it should be thoroughly sorted as the owner has ridden it enough to address the issues that still remain on current models. Now, you knew I was going to say this, but check out my Touring model in the bikes for sale section.
Thanks, and a good pitch, but with the miles I'm looking to put on the bike, it's simply too high! Good for someone only looking to do 1 or 2k per year though....
"That sort of mileage is nothing to the Ducati engine" I'd disagree with that one. Just had new heads under warranty at 18,000 miles
