ciao a tutti, a group of 6 riders (two of us on Multistradas) will be riding from the SF Bay Area south east to Death Valley, meeting up with a few more Multistradas riding in from Santa Barbara/Ojia area in Bakersfield, CA, and then continuing on to Beatty, NV to meet up with a few riders from Southern California. will spend a few days riding in and around Death Valley (my first time there). will post up a few picts when i return. here is the potential route from Bay Area to Death Valley green for day 1 (303 miles), magenta for day 2 (240 miles). normally, we would bang out the entire 543 miles in a day ... but most of us on this trip have not ridden these roads, seen what is there ... so we will do a more casual riding pace, stopping frequently for photos and to take in the scenery. have not plotted routes back yet, as will be dependent on road conditions/weather. if it was summer, we would ride back up north on CA-395, then west on CA-120 through Yosemite. unfortunately, Tuolumne Pass and parts of CA-395 are still snowed in, and will not open up for a few more months.
Excellent. Have a good trip. Americas answer to the European Multistrada Meeting, taking place this year in Andorra.
We rode that route last September on a hired BMW RT, it was record breaking temperatures in Bakersfield. The first week the temperature was difficult to manage. We rode from San Francisco to NYC, spent a month on the trip, I suspect it was a once in a lifetime experience for us.
sorry to read that you had such warm/hot weather to deal with ... i can imaging that put a dent in your overall experience.
We had a fantastic time, unbelievable experience, if it hadn't been ridiculously hot (122 F) in Death Valley we might have been disappointed.
