So I've managed to pick up a puncture on a ride this evening. Road's were covered in gravel and I must have picked up a piece of flint or something as have a small tear right in the middle of the rear tyre. Was down to 4psi when I finally managed to reach a garage, 43 miles from home! Very gentle ride home and two more stops for air and all was fine. Was so surprised at how stiff the carcass is as it obviously wasn't great but also wasn't as bad as when I experienced a flat before. So now I need a new rear but am wondering whether to change both at the same time for something different. Currently have Rosso 3's and the front is still good for a long while yet so the most economical thing would be a new Rosso 3 on the rear. But you know, man maths makes me start to look at other options. I ran Bridgestone S21's on my old GSXR-750 and I hear the S22's are a good improvement on what was already a good tyre. Pretty much exclusively "progressive" road riding but have my first track day at the start of September at an ARD. So I'm also thinking that changing to Rosso Corsa 2's might be an idea. Anyone have any advice on experience of different tyres on the Panigale's?
Metzeler M7rr’s are great. The new M9rr is their latest, just fitted one a few days ago, fully expecting it to be even better. Also rode a Continental sport attack at Donnington, liked it a lot. Felt really good.
I have Rosso Corsa 2s on my 1299. I also have had s22’s on My 748 and Triumph. Both tyres are excellent IMHO. I would go S22 just to save a few quid given the choice. There were supply issues with S22s at the start of lockdown but should be sorted by now.

I was interested to see if Metzrler came up at all as I'm a little sceptical in the way that they always come up on top in every single tyre test that MCN does but never perform quite as strongly in other tests so the cynical side of me always wonders what sponsorship is going on here. Yes I'll change the front if I do change to a different tyre, would never run mixed! The front has a good amount of life left on it and the rear was only 1500 miles old as the dealer put a new one on for me. Very interesting point on the electronics as I'd also thought about this. When I got the bike I went through the tyre calibration procedure but do wonder how much changing tyre brand and therefore the tyre profile may affect things. But the manual says about staying with stock Supercorsa SP, but I imagine most don't for road riding.
Re calibration. My manual simply gives tyre sizes as 120/70 and 200/55 rather than a brand or specific tyre. It’s a 2015 Pani R.
I ran M7RRs on mine. Great tyres. Have you checked the front for shoulder wear? A front can have loads of tread depth, but if the shoulders are stepped then I for one would replace it, especially given that you have a track day on the horizon. I recently did a very wet day at Spa on my V4S with Pirelli Diabolo Rosso Corsa II and was very impressed with the grip levels.
All of the above works well! Some people just have a preference on feel that leads to confidence and a good balance. Definitely do a calibration regardless.....
Arise dead thread, chris what did you get in the end? I'm on 2mm front and rear, on SP's and might seek something more mileage robust.
Ooo this is from a while back. I did replace the rear with a Rosso 3, but then changed to Rosso Corsa 2 from spring 2021 and on my second set but multiple TDs in that time. Rear will be done after a day I have in April so looking to replace with the RC2 replacement which is the Rosso 4 Corsa. Tempted to go with new Supercorsa, but I do ride on the road with 6-8 TDs a year so think having something that works across all situations is probably best
My experience with Supercorsa on my R1 was that in a day on track somewhere like Snetterton or Donnington and the tyre is past it's best, infact my Supercorsa SP V3 lasted less than a day at snett at approaching fast group pace. I would personally have a set of Rosso Corsa (the newest ones) and they'll be nearly as good for trackdays but have that slightly harder middle, as the Supercorsa really doesn't last on the road. Or swap the tyres for the trackdays and run something much more road orientated like Rosso 4
Just put a pair of Rosso 4s on my 1299 feel really good so far . Off to Scotland on it in a couple of weeks will give an update on them then
