My 848 Corse SE is way too vibey!

  1. What are the odds of...

    So, if I get this right, you and I are experiencing more or less the exact same phenomenon but on two different bikes?
    What are the odds of that, one cannot but wonder!

    I've come to the conclusion that it is not a question of resonance or critical rpm's but that it's something that has been forced out of balance/tune. It's, as has been mentioned not entirely uncommon for engines to have vibey rpm zones so that one clearly feels when the vibrations start but also very clearly feels when they subside. I had a BMW that had very buzzy/fizzy handlebars at 7k +- appr. 200 rpm, below and above virtually nothing. With the 848 the vibrations start but they never subside, quite the opposite actually.

    I noticed that you are not[self described] a mechanically inclined person but have, I do believe a rather different and to some extent by judging from your other postings, perhaps more impressive skill set.
    Anyway, I've built and rebuilt my fair share of both motorcycle and car engines and I usually manage-it takes some time occasionally-to get things working. Most of the hands on have been on small to medium sized marine diesels, though. Not that this qualifies me as an expert but I do, or at least I would like to think so, know some useful things/facts about internal combustion engines.

    With that said and back on track again...

    Do you by any chance know the manufacturing date/time of your bike?
    It would perhaps also be interesting to compare the engine id's! Odds are "sort of low/short " that they are from either the same batch/period or contain parts from the same batches[bearings|con-rods|*]. Or perish the thought, both have been assembled on mondays by the very same person.

    This will eventually have/find its resolution and I would very much appreciate if you continue to post your findings here as you meander along the way back to a "normal" bike. I will do likewise.

  2. I've got the bike booked in for Thursday this week. Yeah who knows could have been Louigi's off day and he built some mingers :wink: Definitely not resonance as you rightly observe. My 848 is a 2013 Course SE, no idea when it left the factory but do have the engine ID.

  6. OK guys some advice. The chassis and engine IDs don't match on my Ducati Waranty certificate compared to what the dealer has written in the service book. And the sales invoice has a chassis ID that doesn't match either?

  15. Mine is also a MY 2013 EVO Corse SE. Looking forward to some news/info after your thursday workshop appointment. Depending on the outcome I might have something useful on hand when I eventually take mine to the dealer's workshop.
     
  16. Did you buy from same dealer that appeared to stiff you over last time? Cant imagine why they would be different, if the reg matches, bike too new to have had a change. Could be an admin thing on first reg maybe

  18. I did yes - seemed a deal too good to refuse. Er, hindsight is great isn't it.

    I had the lower fairings off today to give it a good clean after a very wet ride and noted the engine number. The chassis is correct on the waranty and service book, but the service book has the wrong engine ID. The sales invoice has correct reg but wrong chassis ID!

    Not so worried about the sales invoice but I've got a service book with the wrong engine details in it. How feking hard can it be to write the correct numbers down!?

    Will try to get it all straightnend out Thursday as you can bet if there was a serious warranty claim down the line there'll be questions when forms need filling in.
