I have a couple of questions I am hoping you guys and girls might be able to answer regarding my September delivery Panigale: I have an Abba stand I use on my 2011 Fireblade but I have been informed that they are not going to supply adaptors for the Panigale as the fairing fowls the mounting points. If I fit rear spindle sliders can I use a standard double sided paddock stand that I also have rather than forking out even more money purchasing a single side stand? I have read that 2013 models come with a 41 tooth sprocket rather than the earlier 39. I have asked my supplying dealer but they seem unsure. The bike is due to be shipped from Italy this week so I am assuming it be to the latest specification. Edit - forgot the third question: I noted when I test drove the dealer demonstration bike that I found it really difficult to deploy the side stand, my foot kept slipping off the stand rather than pushing it down, is it just me and I need to learn the knack. Thank you in advance for any advice or comments.
I wouldn't trust your dodgy paddock stand idea, how would you get the wheel out for starters? The 2013 model comes with a 39T rear but there is an option chain/sprocket kit at a cost from memory
I would not use a paddock stand that is not designed for the bike. If you are going to spend Ducati money on this bike, buy the correct stand (IMHO). I still have my Abba stand in the garage, doing nothing too. AFAIK only the R comes with the 41 tooth rear sprocket as standard. I have just paid £ 150 to fit the same, including a new chain.
You are proberbly right Freak, I was just thinking out loud, R&G do spindle sliders that look similar to the cotton reels on my Blade and was just wondering. I knew turning Red would cost me dear. Thanks for the heads up on the sprocket, as you say the dealer said it might come with 39T but they could supply and fit a 41T at a cost if I want, I am not sure where I think I read 2013's come with the extra 2T.
All the above are correct. The sidestand issue is really easy to get over: Instead of trying to get your heel on the end of the stand put your foot BEHIND the footpeg and place your toe on the stand and push down......so simple really. September is a long way off, why the wait?
Rear spindle sliders on a single sided swinger are a waste of time IMO the spindle will never hit the deck, you need a swingarm carbon guard and the other side will be deflected by the tyre sidewall... Believe me. Front spindle yes, get JHP ones though.
On the subject of sprockets.....the Renthal 1199 carrier and sprockets will be available soon
Thank you for the tip regarding the side stand, I will bear that in mind. Why wait, quite simple really, I was not bothered about it being a 13 or a 63 plate but assuming it gets shipped on time the dealership then need to fit the odds and sods I have asked for, then I will out the country on business, then we on holiday so it made no sense to ask them to rush it though the workshop when I won’t be around to enjoy it anyway.
I've had my pani up on my abba stand, but you have to take the fairing lowers off first. Decent paddock stand is a must.
i find the slip in axle paddock stand ever so reassuring.. you can keep it in while manouvring the bike and the chance on a mistake or the bike falling from a double one is like nill... can't see how that could not be worth the little money it takes ten times over.. if a dealer can't tell you what sprocket size you're bike will have, i' d frown...
Thanks Kope, its not so much about spending the money on a new stand more that I wondered if I could use the one I have. Also, with regard to the dealer not being sure on the sprocket, I only spoke to the 'office lad' and he wasn’t sure. I guess if I had bothered to talk to someone more senior I would have got a much clearer answer. Having been a member of 1000rr.co.uk for a couple of years now I have found that you can get much better real world advice and information from the forum than you ever do from dealership staff. Thanks for taking the trouble to help guys. I appreciate it.
Random thought.... does changing the sprocket confuse the traction control? It just occurred to me that if changing tyre profile confused it, then surely a change to gearing would as well? Ian
Nope, that would also have a similar affect of changing gear... Both wheels have "speed" sensors and TC will only activate if it detects a predefined difference between the two. But how often have any of us needed TC?
I am not sure what it does but there is a new upmap loaded if you have Ducati change the sprocket etc.
What Abba spigots are you using to fit the Pani, Hammer? I bought a Bursig stand with castors which also needs the lower fairing off (on left side only) but would also like to use my Abba if poss Zentralmontageständer für Ducati 1199 Panigale S 2012 D1199-12
Not sure, I have a box of assorted abba 'bits' and a couple of them that fit quite well. I think they are 916 ones but cant be sure. Have to take the lowers off to use them though, hence a decent paddock stand is really useful for normal use.
Well I'm certainly not the world's best rider, but I was getting a fair amount of amber lights flashing at me on Sat driving out of corners at Silverstone Stowe circuit. I had TC turned up pretty high... maybe unnecessarily so. .. but I'm definitely happier understanding the basis on which it activates. Thanks for the clarification. .. you're right saying it's analogous to changing gear. I guess the issue then is more the relative diameter if the rear tire compared to the front, rather than the absolute diameter of the rear itself? Ian
