Anyone tried 16/43 tooth sprockets on a 999 or 999R? I was looking to convert to 520 chain mainly because I have a nearly new (200 miles max) 520 race chain and was wanting to go 15/39 but struggling to find people that stock those sizes but I can get 16/43 sprockets but wasn't sure how well they fit although multiple sites are quoting 43 tooth rears and 16 tooth fronts for 749 & 999. 15/39 is approx 7% difference from standard and 16/43 is 10% so not vastly different. I know chain needs to be longer - 100 links?
I have 14/39 on mine (520 chain). It was difficult finding a 39t rear. I ended up with an AFAM one and also a DP one for spare. Is there enough clearance for a 16t on the front?
Not sure whether there is enough room for the 16T front sprocket hence asking on the forum. I'd heard that running a 14T front wore out the sliders on the swing arm but if your running it then that might just be urban myth. Agree that 39T rear are difficult to find - I'm now looking at a 41T with probably a 15T front.
No problems with chain life either? I can never remember what I was running on my 1098 but that could have been 14T. If i went 14T then i'd probably be looking for a 36T rear and not sure how easy they are to find
Depends on how much you're willing to spend but I had CeraCarbon make me a 39T prototype sprocket many years ago. Doesn't seem to be listed in their supported models in their webshop but they might be able to make one for you anyway as my contact in the ordering process was all done over e-mail. Included a pic of their technical drawing (for a similar 40T sprocket) and a pic of the sprocket itself.
Did a three second search on eBay and found this - dead easy. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233860671069 And this. - ad says 36t but packaging says 37t… https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195583595079
