Had a slight mishap with what looks to be a previously repaired (badly?) top yoke so now looking for a replacement. Part number 341.1.041.1A particular to the 999R - I only need the bare yoke and don't need the number plaque as I intend to transfer it over. Otherwise i'll have to make a decision on a new part or attempting a better welded repair.
I was thinking of doing just that until I realised standard ones don't have the Ducati logo machined in. It's not for my track bike so need it to be correct although I will probably get a standard yoke for the moment while looking so the bike can stay on the road. Just a shame I missed the repair when I bought the bike but that's life when buying older bikes.
The yoke has been welded between the fork leg and the large lightening hole. There are no marks on the yoke so I can only assume a previous owner or mechanic has ignored the torque settings and over tightened. The metal is thick enough that you'd think the threads would shear first but can't think of anything else.

Not a similar problem but the same yoke that was obviously repaired rather than replaced. Shame JoeC decided to go down the cheap route and take a chance on repair rather than replace.
I'm guessing it's jbweld or similar otherwise it'd have distorted too much and needed machining. I'm just glad I've never had the inclination to push the bike and have some fun or it could have been a lot more serious, as it was the front just started feeling loose as though the steering head needed tightening.
Not sure how common this is but it's being quoted as a common problem on a 749/999R group with other examples in exactly the same place. Wondering if the standard yoke is stronger for everyday use.
So, as I understand it, those two yokes are the same part? Did you buy the bike off JoeC? Did you know that the yoke was effed at the time? I hope you negotiated a significant reduction in price when you got it! There’s no way I’d ride that like that, it’s only fit for the bin.

I bought it thru' a dealer but it is JoeC's bike so yes it's the same yoke. I won't be riding it until it's sorted properly. Might make a nice doorstop
Not found out how these things crack although that location is the narrowest. I will be checking the bottom yokes and forks. If it's a common enough fault then maybe yoke is right on the limit for weight? If the yoke is cast as other yokes are then I wouldn't have it repaired even by the best welder in the business - you don't really want to repair highly stressed cast items. Different matter if it's forged. Your right about the rose tinted glasses - I made the mistake that I was dealing with a reputable dealer that wouldn't be selling stuff like this on. My mistake and i'll not be making it again.
