Thanks for the link. Some of the figures quoted are much higher safety gains than I would have expected TBH. But what was ROSPA saying back in 2013 when the Tories brought in "Smart" motorways which it now says have killed 30 people and injured many more...
Never struggled to pass safely mopeds and cyclists easily as the speed difference is significant enough for it not to be a problem. However if you’ve a HGV or van at a maximum 50 and a car at max of 60 that isn’t a significant difference. Plenty of times I’ve been passed in dangerous situations by impatient drivers because 50 just isn’t enough for some resulting in poor decisions being made.
While ROSPA (the 'wrap everything in cotton wool' brigade) are quick to point out that there's 8% less accidents in 20mph zones what they don't tell you is the increased mortality rates from drivers suffering stress through frustration, or even being bored to death. Joking aside, the previous comment '...why not then reduce limits to 10 or 0 mph?' is the key. That is what is coming. The end goal for private transport is to be limited to pedal power for us plebs while the upper class will still be able to drive whatever they want.
Probably not..but....its one of those things isnt it.....your a copper - youre behind me....do you go to pull me over for the the fact that the plate is "positioned" incorrecty when (as far as i know) theres no law that can say it is...after all its visible...- youd have to go down the route of not a standard plate...the plate isnt stupidly small - just the one that everyone uses when they go for a smaller plate...not taking the piss...ill probably get nicked now on the way home tonight!
Depends each copper reacts differently, he may stop you and advice you or prosecute. Mate got pulled years ago a discussion was had but as the copper couldn’t measure the letters he gave up and let him on his way. It’s the letters size and font not the plate size, for arguments sake you have a private plate C1. You need only the correct letter size and font not a correct plate size as there isn’t one as such. I run a 7x5 which has 7 digits but would be illegal. I doubt I’d be stopped specifically for just the plate, I’ve been followed numerous times by the Welsh Police and not ever been stopped for it.
As my local mechanic found out at 90mph 2 up on his then Bandit they be random creatures, broken bones for him not a mark on the pillion……
Yeah but while the placement in "engerland" has been ok so far....i reckon it would tip the welsh filth over the top.... i will say that i use the phrase "the filth" in jest....child of the young ones era...
I think the size of my number plate would be the last thing on any Police officers mind, on reflection.
I watched a documentary on North Yorkshire police last night. Right wankers! Very anti biker, wanted to throw my beer bottle at the telly…. And I’m from North Yorkshire btw…
I saw that too. Although the guy on the Africa twin was a bit naughty, they went way over the top with him.
They lost their composure with him, plus they flagged him down and stopped him in a dangerous section of road. What a pair of throbbers.
It would just be added afterwards, they’ll have stopped you for something far more ‘serious’ it would be added though.
Definitely an urban myth - comes up regularly and if it was true I'd be banned by now. Given virtually all speedos are out ~5% a 2mph margin isn't feasible. Smart motorways need watching though with average speed cameras. I know of two friends who got caught doing 77mph and 79mph when they were calibrating them on the M4 after finishing the works (The Reading to London stretch).
To an extent it’s true but speedos must by law over read and under read IIRC. Thus if your Speedo says you are doing 70mph you will be doing slightly under but if it says 79mph then you are definitely over the limit. So if you are speeding then your Speedo reads well over the limit so you would know that was the case. Cheshire police certainly used to prosecute for doing 33 in a 30 limit.
