My names Dave and I live in the South Lakes area of the UK. I’m an avid trials rider, riding modern machines, older Spanish and Italian twin shocks and latterly Pre 65 machines. My latest purchase is a Ducati Monza , now………… here’s why I’ve joined. The rocker cover says 175, but it’s been bored to 250cc and converted into trials machine trim. The bike has been campaigned in trials across Europe as the previous owner was Spanish. Also in the UK Scottish Pre 65 event. I’ll save my clutch questions till later when I can post some photos.
It's a lovely looking thing, and something I know absolutely nothing about. Can I ask why it looks like somebody has taken an Axe to the outer case? (Very carefully I should add) Cooling???
Hahaaa, yes you can. There’s a separate small V casing that fits the gap, only left it off to watch the clutch actuator arms movement whilst rebuilding the clutch.
Ahh, thanks, that makes sense. I did think it would be odd to have a big 'Muck collection orifice' in the side of something that would get so mucky.
Not particularly, in as much I know of 5 or 6 other ones in the UK that have been converted to trial trim. It’s a basic Monza frame and a narrow case engine. I don’t who it was but this conversion was done by a Ducati specialist in Spain.
Ok folks. I’ve rebuilt many trialsbike engines over the years but not tackled a Ducati. I’ve looked on several sites to try and find a diagram or worded document showing the sequence and amount of plates but to no avail. The clutch has only 5 friction plates and four steels one being thicker than the rest. The new clutch kit I’ve bought is a Sureflex, but that has 7 friction plates and 6 steel all of which are the same width, not a thick one included in the kit. Also the Allen bolts / screws that hold the pressure plates , springs and thimbles in place, do they all need to be done up. It’s just that when I pull the clutch lever in and operate the kickstart, the clutch pressure plate oscillates rather than running true. On other clutches I’ve worked you decrease or increase the pressure on the plate by adjusting the Allen bolts until you get the pressure plate to run true. I’d appreciate a diagram of a Monza clutch if possible and a description of how to assemble it, sequence etc.Please excuse the terrible welding ….not me. Many thanks folks.
