Bought from an insurance company who wrote the bike off as a CAT B due to bent lockstops (forks were also bent and bottom yoke had cracked, and there was also some minor panel damaged too - but its ridiculous what they write bikes off as CAT B for, so no longer allowed to be used on the road), I have spent the last 6 months building this bike in to a track bike for myself to use at a special invite-only trackday event at Knockhill at the end of May, but with the idea that the next owner may just want it as a show / display bike if they dont ride on track themselves. First job was to check all the alignment of the frame which we did, so knowing it was straight, we set about the build..... No expense has been spared. We have put 1098S Ohlins forks in which were stripped and rebuilt with KTech springs, 1098S front brake calipers with titanium cross drilled bolts and new SBS RS pads, operated with an Accossato 19x18 radial master cylinder with new fluid reservoir, new Venhill braided brake lines, and with new 998R front brake discs. Ducati 748R adjustable rake bottom yoke and a new 749R top yoke. Rear Ohlins shock stripped and rebuilt with correct spring on for my weight. Accossato 16x16 clutch master cylinder and Oberon clutch slave cylinder. Ducati 1098R long race clipons with new Renthal grips. New headstock and front wheel bearings. Bonamici rearsets. R&G clutch and waterpump covers, and R&G front wheel spindle sliders. Motoholders front and rear lightweight race subframes with all new CRC race bodywork, custom painted by as a Troy Bayliss replica. Hyperpro steering damper. New air intake tube gaskets and air fliters. New fuel pump o-rings and fuel line o-rings. Keyless race fuel cap. New Conti RaceAttack tyres. Oil and filter service. And finally a Rapid Bike Evo unit for fuel management, setup on our dyno where it made 125 hp at the rear wheel, and 77 ft. lbs. So what do we all think?
Not just yet, but after the trackday the end of May then it will be if you are interested. Drop me a PM if you want
Slightly surprised that for a dedicated track bike you've stuck with 45mm pipes. Would've thought letting the top end breathe a bit with bigger pipes and corresponding chip would've been an early consideration in the rebuild.
It's more of a track bike to make memories on rather than out an out performance and lap times. I had thought about going for the bigger pipes, but its getting hold of a set that's one of the issues, and the possibility of not meeting certain tracks noise limits.
