So what have you done today..?

  1. Not today, but Sunday. First cricket match of the season after missing the previous 3 games due to rain and a family christening.

Came in to bat for the last two overs of our innings and scored a quick, but as it turned out, useful 10 not out, leaving us with a fairly unimpressive 166 to bowl at. Then opened the bowling and took 3 wickets for 28 off 8 overs on the way to us skittling the oppos all out for 158, meaning we won by 8 runs.

Lovely weather, great bants and a good game which see-sawed one way then the other right to the end.

  2. Played a lot of cricket back in SA, but out here, you don't even see it on TV :( Miss the game.

  3. Today I was going to cut the grass around 10am but the heavens opened as soon as I opened the garage door to get the mower out.

Instead I’ve done 3 loads of washing, been to Tesco and spent £158.15 on God knows what (no booze in that either), and done some ironing. I’ve also booked the Multi in for its first service next Tuesday.

I thought about cutting the grass again but 10 mins ago we had a thunderstorm with bloody hailstones chucked in too. Fucking weather!

  6. Left the track a bit early today due to the uncomfortably high temperature. Leathers and mid 30s ⁰C don't go together. Across from our hotel in Garrucha, there is a small beach bar offering local fish, simply prepared either under a grill or á la planche and serve chilled larger in glasses kept in the freezer. Just enjoyed a mixed shellfish starter followed by a whole, grilled John Dory, washed down with pints of cold Alhambra. It doesn't get much better than this. The only downside, I'm pissed and I'm ready for bed at 19:30 local time :joy: Andy

  7. Annoying that the Gates Carbon Drive app doesn't work on my Android phone, so having sorted these out...

...I fortunately found this 'Belt Tension Meter' app and got things set to my satisfaction (near enough to 99Hz, as recommended) :)

  9. All of them are taking your trousers down - they are making massive additional profits because they are relying on inflationary statistics saying food inflation is 15 to 19% - so they increase prices accordingly - regardless of input prices or money paid to producers. Advertising to consumers is based on what they are doing to help the cost of living crisis. Complete Bollox

  10. Got fed up with hacking my guts up, so went to see the doc. Apparently I picked up a virus on holiday (which has now cleared up). That turned into laryngitis, which has now turned into tonsillitis, so they’ve put me on antibiotics to clear it up. Don’t think I’ll be going on holiday for a while!

  11. Sounds like you’ve been through the mill with this.
At least you can now get a decent cuppa and a Dairylea triangle

  12. For me, Aldi is the daddy. Their food is relatively inexpensive and it’s very good quality, particularly their “Specially Selected” range.

  13. Arrived back home after ten days or so exploring the Pyrenees with a great bunch.

Towns and villages seem much quieter than a few years ago, but roads were less busy and a great time was had.

  14. I took it pretty seriously until I broke my elbow when I was 18 which left my bowling arm crooked and meant I had to change my stock delivery from late/dipping in swingers to out swingers. I was still taking wickets and playing at a reasonable standard into my mid twenties, but the injury and change to my action put paid to any thoughts of taking it further. It also badly affected my throwing, so my fielding suffered too.

I then lost contact with the game for a long while, mostly because it disappeared from terrestrial tv and life got in the way of playing. But early last year I got talking to the village cricket club’s ground keeper while walking my dog and he persuaded me to come along for a net.

So, after 27 years absence, I ended up playing most of last season and even got into the First XI for the latter half of it, though tbh I preferred playing in the 2s, as the games were shorter (40 rather than 50 overs), the bowling was less hostile and everyone generally just had a laugh rather than taking it too seriously. Unfortunately, we’re only putting out one side this year, so hopefully I can keep my place….

It’s never too late to go back to it you know.

Anyhoo - I took a bumper to the ribs at nets this evening, so I think a couple of codeine and a hot bath might be in order o_O

  15. I’ll stick to the honey lemon and ginger for now, but once I feel like I’m getting better will be planning a banquet!

  17. Ribs... Ouch. Hope that clears up soon.

There were a group of Indian expats who played for a year or two back in 2003/4 but that didn't last. The issue is always finding a suitable venue to as there are no cricket grounds. When you find something suitable what usually happens is that after a short while someone expresses their concern about a group of foreigners enjoying themselves and shortly thereafter permission to use the place is withdrawn. So you start looking for a new venue. Eventually they gave up. Post Covid things have become more complicated.

  18. So far I’ve washed and dried the bike, vacuumed the house and watered the plants as I’m off to Northumberland for the weekend :)
