Please read the ad, the price is for the bike as-is, spares are extra. Sad that it's come to this but I'm looking to move on my 1980 US import Suzuki GS750ET (equivalent to a UK GSX750ET). At some point this bike has had its engine switched for the older unit 8v unit from a 1976-79 GS750. This bike was imported in 1996 and I bought the bike in February 2020 as a running restoration, putting it back to standard spec, however I have never quite got round to finishing it and I now need the space in my garage (and a few quid in my pocket) to focus on other things. It is registered historically so is tax and MOT exempt (currently SORN). I ran the bike sporadically though 2020, 21 and early 22 but took it off the road last spring / summer as I couldn’t get to the bottom of two persistent issues, the first being its tendency to dump fuel out of the carb overflows and the second being a lack of mid - top end performance. The bike ran well at idle, would happily rev when static and pulled well at low revs and part throttle however over half throttle the bike just made more noise without really picking up much speed. Aside from these two issues and weak front brakes the bike rode really nicely. I have receipts and notes of the work I’ve done whilst I’ve had the bike which you are welcome to inspect but it’s too much to write it all down here. I've been stock piling various bits, including a replacement engine to get the bike back to standard. Recently I’ve been trying to establish the best course of action with the bike so I have been going over all the components to make an assessment of what’s good and what isn’t. I’ve also done compression and leak down tests on both engines to establish their current condition. Please note that all observations are my own and while I’m a mechanical engineer, I’m very much an amateur mechanic! Also when it comes to the testing, my tools are cheap and may not be the most accurate, you are welcome to run your own tests on viewing. Price for bike alone, as it stands, with the old 8v motor fitted, is £1250, or for absolutely everything listed below it’s £2250 but I’m happy to negotiate. My preference is to sell everything as a single lot but I’ll consider any offer made. If it doesn’t sell then I’ll be breaking for parts. GS750 Engine Condition *Compression - All cylinders around 97.5psi on a cold engine, unable to test hot. *Leak Down - around 30% leakage across the board - top end seems to be good, most of the air was coming from the crankcase breather so likely stuck / worn rings. *Damage on RHS casing to two of the mounting points for the ignition cover, one internal, one external (araldited to make weather proof). *Barrels are OK but damage to cooling fins at the following locations; adjacent to spark no.4 under exhaust ports for cylinders 1 & 4 *Damage to casings on LHS, front lower generator cover mounting point. Has been repaired with putty. *It leaks oil. *Was running when I took the bike off the road. *Kickstart mechanism works well. GS750 Carbs *Had been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt about 12-18 months ago, would benefit from another going over given the time the bike has been sitting. *Complete and in outwardly good condition. GSX750 Engine Condition *Compression - Low, like 50 psi low but I was struggling to get the engine cranking at a good speed. *Leak Down - Circa 35% across the board, all coming from both sets of valves - Valves look really oily and coked up so thinking likely valve stem seals are gone. *Very tidy cosmetically, complete and no broken fins. GSX750 Carbs *Have been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. May benefit from a check as they’ve been sitting but nothing more than that. *Complete and in good condition. *Jetting -Mains - 117.5, (also have some 142.5 loose) -Pilots - 45 -Starter - 190 -Needle jets - Y7 -Needles - 5C32 -Pilot screw - 1.5 turns out Wheels & Tyres *Good solid condition. *Would benefit from refurb but purely cosmetic. *Tyres were new a couple of years ago, matching Avons, great nick with loads of tread Brakes (Front) *Poor power and lots of lever travel. *Discs are good, centres could do with a cosmetic refresh but that’s all. *Callipers pretty good condition, fresh paint would lift them. New seals and pistons last year, zero miles since. *Plenty meat in the pads but they are ancient. *Original MC was shot so was binned. *Good GSF-600 MC fitted but it’s not sufficiently powerful for the size of the calliper pistons. Good GSF-1200 MC ready to go on and should* mean the front brakes are good to go. *Goodridge front hoses fitted. Brakes (rear) *Works great. *Disc is good, same as fronts. *Original MC and hoses. Drivetrain *Chain rusty but free, probably worth replacing. *Front sprocket is pretty fresh, replaced last year and very few miles completed. *Rear sprocket looks decent but age unknown. Rear Suspension *Swingarm solid but starting to show signs of rust, would benefit from a refresh. *Shocks aftermarket, recent and in good condition. Front Suspension *Overall in good condition cosmetically. *Some pitting to stanchions, these may need replating or replacing in the future. *Very bouncy, would probably benefit from a refresh. Frame and Bodywork *Frame is solid but would perhaps benefit from a bit of a refresh. *Loom clamps are becoming fragile due to bending fatigue but most still present. *Tank is excellent. *Headlight fairing could do with a repaint. *Side panels are present, LHS in good condition, RHS is loose so falls off and as such has some paint damage. *Tail unit is decent although the grommet around the seat lock is missing. *Seat is decent although would maybe benefit a bit of a refresh. Base is solid though. *Rear mudguard present and in good condition. *Front mudguard present and in good condition. *All brightwork is speckled with corrosion, most polishes up to be presentable but all would benefit from replating if you’re going for a full resto. *Centre stand present but not fitted. Exhaust *Motad 4-1 system. *Collars and head inserts would benefit from a clean up and replating / coating. *Downpipes in need of a polish but overall good. *Collector and silencer has a few small dents and some pitting to the chrome but overall solid and presentable. No internal rattling! Controls and Instruments *US clocks fitted, speedo under-reads and tacho moves but doesn’t respond instantly to revs. *UK clocks available to switch over. *Instrument lights all work with exception of neutral light. Gear indicator works. *All lights and electrics work as intended although LH switchgear is sticky and would benefit from a clean internally. *Oxford heated grips fitted and work correctly. Spares Available *Cam chain tensioners *Ignition parts *Centre stands x 2 *Partial gasket set for the 1978 engine *Assorted control cables *Brake pads *Brake callipers and carriers (1982) *Brake callipers and carriers (GS850?) *NOS GSX carb rubbers *GSX air box *UK clocks *GSX engine mounting plates
PS I'd isn't read it all. It actually might be if interst to someone Sorry for being an arese my only excuse is I've been drinkiing
