Hi , Just Got My First Ducati.....

  1. By sheer luck someone had a mint 2002 red 748 and they wanted a T595 Daytona... With all the extras he put on it owed him appx 8k in his under a year ownership , paid 6500 and spent prob 1500 plus on billet rearsets , aftermarket race clutch pressure plate, new Gianelli cans , clutch cylinder, billet rearsets FSH recent belts by Ducati dealer , full recent service , lots of carbon , the list goes on. So did the straight swap and can't believe I now own this. Storming engine and looks that get waves off people already . This Is my forever bike and I feel comfortable on it , in my 50s. ( Kept myself as fit as a 30 yr old ) so don't know what the fuss about comfort is about. Still think I will wake up and it's a dream! My T595 was a lovely bike too but this is just so much more "me" to own. By even uprated starter leads etc and new tyres, the lot. Back to staring at bike again holding a beer if not on it

  7. The bins are , apparantly needed for the bits that fall off . But I have a Suzuki gt380 too and the bins are for the old grannies waving their walking sticks at me in fury. Chuck em in and tape the lid down

  9. Greetings! Looks like you got a great deal on a great 748.

I had a wonderful GT380 once, ported with expannies -oh the fun we had...

    Re. the grannies.
I have found wrapping them with double sided tape has a unique advantage. Once they are in the bin, they are securely stuck to the sides which prevents them escaping, even if the thing falls over. Just a thought.

  10. Good advice. My gt380 mint now but sitting scowling at the 748. But at least I can thrash gt380 , the 748 shocked me yesterday , even after a t595 and gsxr 750 k6. Reckon it's been mapped. It's too quick for a 750 v twin

  11. The 380 is scowling, not me. Ah, but the Gt say it's gonna smoke the 748. Well, bit of truth in that. Even with synthetic 2 stroke oil. And to think when I was 17 , a GT 380 was past it , but considered quick. Reading mags about Ducati 748 some say not quick. I dare anyone to pin throttle on the road they the first four gears and say it's not fast. It's pulled my arms off like my t595 didn't .....

  12. Maybe its bored out and mapped, but could it be the awesome noise and the amazing torque? Find some others with a similar beastie and ride with them. If you leave them in the dust, swap bikes and see if you still leave them in the dust whilst riding theirs!

  13. Good swap going your way.

To be clear you had a T595 and you found someone who found it more desirable than a 916, you lucky lucky…….

  14. Happy you’ve found the experience to your satisfaction.

I rode a mates 748 and thought it not that powerful tbh, I thought my dated by then 851 had a much better engine. Perhaps that’s the rationale for some owners to increase the capacity to 853.

  18. Nice Bike. 2002 must be one of the last made, I wonder if that explains the mesh fairing inserts (usually only seen on 998's of that era). Didn't know they used the same fairing on 748's. Every day a school day etc.....

  19. Lovely bike.
