Anyone else finding the V2 suspension very hard. Going to try adjusting It’s shaking my eye balls out on some roads.
How did you get on? I'd be interested to know what changes you made in the end. I did lots of reading a few weeks back and still wasn't quite sure what to do - i adjusted the front pre-load on my SFv2 and put the zip-tie on as it seemed to be the only straight forward part.. Hoping to find someone of similar weight that I can copy other settings!
I certainly was, it’s one of the most expensive bikes I’ve ever had and yet probably the worst for suspension. I’m no racer, just an average rider but I found it harsh and the adjustment had very little effect. It’s spent a while over winter down at Nitron while they worked their magic, I’ve not long had it back but half a mile into a 70 mile ride I totally forgot about the suspension, before I’d be swearing about it in my helmet but now it just does it’s thing with no drama. Don’t get me wrong, it’s no Goldwing but its totally transformed. Making adjustments you can actually feel a difference. I’m looking forward to learning more about it all, I understand the theory but putting it to use helps it all to make sense. I probably over spent for my needs/skill but the bike will be here to stay for the long term and it’s a good distraction from real life!
Get the rear shock off and sent to MCT to revalve it, for the road you don’t need to through loads of parts at it but the shock is terribly valved as stock and locks out over fast bumps regardless of setting
It was Darren at MCT that sent me down this suspension rabbit hole in the first place. That guy is brilliant and I probably owe him half an hours labour for the time he spent on the phone going through everything.
Oh, that's not filled me with confidence pick.my new SFv2 on Saturday so will be interesting to see if I have the same issue's, in all the write ups it mentions the stiff suspension..
I don’t seem to find it too hard, and suffer with back problems, so it can’t be that bad. I do find that my neck aches after riding it at silly speeds though!
I’ve now given the front forks 4 clicks to soft at the bottom. And the rear shock as soft as it will adjust too. And find it allot better. I’ve also now fitted the thicker more comfy seat which has also made a huge difference. I’m not going to go to the extreme of sending things off as I’m finding adjusting is making a big difference. .
Well did about 200 miles today and could feel every bump and drain in the road. I think I’ve got a lot more adjusting to do. It’s so hard that it shakes my eye balls to the point I struggle to focus on the road. I don’t think the welsh road surface helps
Wow! I’d get it back to the dealer, as it sounds like there’s something seriously wrong with your bike.
Get the shock re-valved by MCT before you do anything drastic, it honestly will transform it. You could wind all the compression damping off and it will still jar, because the high speed Damping circuit is terrible on the stock shock
I have a pani 959 and V2, both have the same rear shock as the SF, and both are absolute rubbish. I have just solved the 959 issue, however at a cost! The V2 is just a road bike, but did get it setup by someone in the know but even so if I push on for a few miles on a bumpy road, can feel it go soft almost like it bottoms out. Its the only thing that lets down an otherwise great bike Hopefully, once I have the one off the 959 ill get a revalve and try that, dont want to spend fortunes as possibly selling it/trading up at end of summer but need to do something otherwise it might have to go sooner
This... I haven't done the shock on my 899 yet, the problem with 'getting it set up' which doesn't help btw is that basically they soften it because you say it feels harsh, but it's a design flaw with the shock, so MCT drill out the rebound circuit and fit a more linear compression adjuster and basically it feels nearly aftermarket plush without being soft everywhere. I was out the seat quite a few times at the weekend but you can feel the difference between harsh damping and this 'fault' which feels like the shock has just locked.
I just reading your post and I thought I wrote it. After picking bike up from having new akrapovic system put on, I don't know if because its lighter but the handling has gone out window feel every bump as your reply says but worse, I've changed the rear to fully soft and front a few clicks it's slightly better, I have been looking at getting a ohlins rear maybe or there is a guy who is apparently a genius setting up suspension, he's coming to one of our bike nights soon and gonna charge us £60 each to set it up. From hearing how he did last time apparently he makes it seem you are hovering over bumps. I'm just worried it's the suspension on the bike that's not up for uk roads especially as I'm on softest now
Cheers Phil, just realised MCT is on almsot on my way to the office so will be dropping a shock to them next week on my way
cool, honestly mine was WAY better after, and I need to send my current one, although I was half tempted to buy a Ohlins from a 1199/1299 and get them to convert it to manual adjusters. It's what I did on my R1, and managed to end up with a TTX shock for £550 All in, which would be nearer £750 for the Ducati one, but still half what the TTX is to buy new.
I’m getting there with the adjustments now. I did find that the tyres were over inflated which made a huge difference when that was put right. Another massive improvement was to roll the bars back towards me. Much more comfortable and better control. So I’m now at a point where I feel very comfortable on the bike. I’ve never had to adjust a bike so much as this one to be honest. But it’s definitely worth adjusting. This bike is incredible when you start pushing it.
