Bluetooth Earpieces/earplugs, Who’s Using What?

  1. I’m looking at maybe getting some ultimate ears or Snugs, I can’t ride without earplugs but fancy the option to have some nav/music for longer rides and would get them with filters so I don’t block out all ambient.

anyone using them or similar products? Any tips?

  2. I’ve got some wired ultimate ears that have now been relegated to plugging the radio in to listen to commentary at the MotoGP. On the bike I now use a decent set of filtered earplugs with a Cardo packtalk fitted in my lid. Advantage of this is that you don’t have to have your phone clamped to the bars as you can control music etc from the buttons on the Cardo. Disadvantage is I never remember what buttons to press on the Cardo and I guess it costs more cash but I don’t tend to think about cash too much.

  3. my new bike has the Bluetooth control and sat nav built in, so I think the cardo might be wasted, but not sure as my mate uses cardo so we could at least use them then

  4. I have Ultimate ear moulded plugs with a filter. Better than the basic plug using the built in Sena in my Neotech II but I can’t hear a thing at motorway speeds over the wind noise. I do ride a Multistrada which is notorious for wind noise at speed though. Fit is comfortable for all day wearing if a bit tight when new. You do need to use a dab of the supplied lubricant to insert the plug. Andy

  5. Similar to above. I have the filtered ultimate ears and use cardo pakatalk. Bluetooth straight to my phone which is stuck on the handlebars. I did try to connect through the multistrada but prefer it to be simple. I can hear fine until around +65 when the bike noise and additional noise from having the unit stuck on the helmet increases

  6. I use JBL buds - they're brilliant with a VERY Snug insulating fit. I can hear music or Nav directions very clearly. And they filter out Wind noise perfectly. Without, it seems, losing any of my bike noises. I love them. Only downside is they are a little fiddly to get a helmet on and off, without occasionally dropping one. But that's just something I've gotten used to now.

  7. If it helps….

I use Shure Se215 earphones which are Bluetoothed via an Apekx BT adapter.

Had the earphones for 20 years albeit in ‘Triggers broom’ style (changed main cable and 1 bud as they can be (or used to be) available separately)

  8. Ultimate ear with the ear buds in them, asked for a short wire so can plug into a Cardo with very little excess.
